Guest guest
Hi, I would like to join the weight loss section of this group. I have diabetes courtesy of the prednisone that I have been on since 1970 for COPD (asthma/chronic bronchitis/multiple times of pneumonia & having two " heavy smoking " parents). I am overweight. I finally have found a doctor who is willing to work with me to get the diabetes under control via diet and Lantus and Humalog insulins. I AM back on track -writing down the " carbs " that I eat day, testing my glucose before each meal as well as 2 hours after until we can see what is going on. I also just discovered that taking the Lantus in the morning, like I've been doing for the past 3 years, causes WEIGHT GAIN..(last issue of Diabetes Forecast and confirmation by the doctor) and have changed my schedule to evenings. I am blessed with the best husband in the world - been married 36 years!! I am 57 years old. At the pulmonologist visit in May I weighed 261 pounds. Last week at the same doctor's office I was 255 - so I made some progress without even knowing or trying.. It is very difficult to add exercise to the equation due to osteoarthritis, osteoporosis (including degenerative disc disease) and fibromyalgia - which flares with weather changes, fatigue, and stress, (like living on the same property with 3 grandchildren - 5, Brittany 7, and 9, - who are homeschooled. I would like to set a goal of attempting to keep all my " challenging conditions " under control and doing more range of motion exercises. I am also going to TRY to add some of the exercise ball routine as I am able, and losing 4 or more pounds during the month of November. .. May God continue to provide each of us with a measure of STRENGTH, WISDOM and PEACE. Elaine - Mobile, AL Type 2 - insulin dependent

I have diabetes partly because of Dexamethasone I was on for several months in 1995 when I had breast cancer. Because of the treatment I was going through, it was very necessary to take the steroids. With the steroids, I gained 45 lbs in less than 3 months. Having diabetes has been a blessing for me because it made me take control of my life and get healthy again. hugs Eunice - type 2 - Sensible eating, exercise, positive attitude, Faith in God
