Guest guest
I have heard that carbonation interferes with the body's ability to absorb certain nutrients; also, soda is high in salt. ('Soda' is from 'sodium', after all.) question Hi all: I have a question. I only drink diet gingerale. Consuming approximately 8 cans a day. In your opinion am I harming myself by not drinking the required eight glasses of water a day. I am type 2 diabetic, taking insulin and metformin. I am approx. 50 pounds over weight. Guest guest
There have been studies that say as long as there is no caffeine, you can count your carbonated beverages as " liquid " intake for the day. I would still drink some water though. too much carbonation reduces bone density... Angelia in OR who is a soda aholic... ----- Original Message ----- > Hi all: > I have a question. Guest guest
Hmmmm.....I should start looking at whether the diet sodas I drink all have caffeine...I'm sure most of them do...does that mean then they do not count as liquid intake for the day? Bone density depletion is what leads to the brittle bones when we become elderly? Then we experience a fall and bones break more easily? Guest guest
Many people (I agree to an extent) say that Caffeine is a diuretic (but my brother in law and other nutritional peoples claim that it is also a metabolism booster), therefore it cancels out the liquid that is absorbed. From what I understand it does mean that they do not count as liquid intake for the day. Want to also make sure of sodium content, as it will leach moisture too. as for the bone density, yes, it causes you to loose bone " mass " I don't remember why right now, but it does... something about leaching minerals, as someone said earlier. I have started drinking 7 up or sierra mist both diet, rather than coke and things like that. Though, I do drink some caffeine sodas on occasion now, I prefer to get my caffeine from tea... Guest guest
Wow thank-you all for the info on diet sodas. I am truly amazed at the response. Now trying to cut back sodas and drink more water. I am pleased to find this group.
Guest guest
I'm told that more often than not it is the bones that spontaneously break causing a fall, rather than a fall causing the bones to break. Be sure your calcium intake is high! Re: question Bone density depletion is what leads to the brittle bones when we become elderly? Then we experience a fall and bones break more easily? Guest guest
A very emphatic YES!!! And I make it worse (I'm BiPolar with OCD) by picking at the scabs till they bleed, then picking and picking....not good, I know, but I can't stop myself. My arms and legs look like I walked through a mosquito infested swamp :-( My regular PCP prescribed some Triamcinolone Acetonide cream, which does help a lot (It comes in a HUGE jar), and suggested I take Claritin to help with itching. I forget to use it many times, because I've never had the patience to slather myself with skin creams or lotions. I have dry skin, & sometimes it peels off like sunburn. He also told me to use Aveeno bath soap. I have noticed a distinct improvement since I started these therapies. Now if I could just stop picking at those scabs...... cyn At 12:26 AM 9/11/2007, Lori Hammer wrote: >Since you have had this disease do you ever get bumps anywhere that >itch like crazy then they turn into scars and it takes a very long >time for them to heal? Guest guest
It was my physician who first suggested I might be BiPolar (I resisted the idea for years). I finally agreed to go to a psychiatrist, who spoke with me for nearly an hour, and told me I was BiPolar, OCD, a little paranoid, and slightly neurotic! I know that since beginning treatment, my behavior has changed for the better. They talk about the signs of depression on tv all the time, in public service announcements, but never mention BP disorder. The manic behavior usually makes you feel giddy and unusually happy, you want to spend spend spend and don't care about finances, and can go days without sleeping & have stores of energy. Many people act out sexually during manic phases, having affairs or multiple partners. OCD is Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. If you've ever seen the show " Monk " , he has an extreme case of it. was known for his OCD behavior. Howie Mandel is OCD - he won't shake hands with people. I have a friend who has to completely clean her entire house every day, from top to bottom, dusting, mopping floors, wiping down furniture, etc. I used to be an obsessive house-keeper myself, but with fibro I just can't keep up with it any more. But, OCD can really be any behavior that you feel compelled to do, to the exclusion of anything else. A vase has to sit on a shelf just so. Or the papers on your desk have to be perfectly stacked, with nothing sticking out. I have hanging file folders (purple ones) for all my bills, the labels HAVE to be written with a black calligraphy pen, and inside the hanging folders I have green file folders for the paid bills and beige for those that need paying. I collect ink pens and sort them into those stackable plastic boxes. They are sorted by ink color, pen style (click or bic, lol! Gel, felt-tip) and I have hundreds of them. I'll never use them all, but I can't make myself get rid of them! There are many more behaviors I have, but you get the idea, I hope! cyn At 09:49 PM 9/11/2007, Lori Hammer wrote: >I cannot quit picking either, especially when I get nervous. Guest guest
, Thank you for the explanation. You are gonna laugh at this but I don't like to write with anythig but a Gel pen. I have a huge box of them and just bought some new ones last week. I go thru them once in a while. throw away the ones that are no good anymore. He does awesome work. He works at a Walmart but he should be using that talent its just unreal. The detail! Guest guest
Boils-I have a good item to use, passed down from my Grandmother, and boy it is effective. It is also effective for the type that are deep in your skin. This stuff is not easy to get, and you most always have to ask the pharmacist to get it. It is called ickthol - not the mixed stuff they have out, but the pure stuff. Not sure of the spelling, so here is the phonic sound of the name ick - the - ol It smells gross-like pure petroleum black goo. You wash the area, (do this at night unless you stay home during the day) put a coating of the goo where the boil is, or if it is under the skin, where you think it is closest to the surface. Cover with gauze and tape it, or band-aid if small enough. Keep doing that every night and the boil, will come to the surface and pop. This also works with those horrid splinters you get from your kids thinking it's cool to climb telephone poles, where you cant get them out because they break. Do the same thing and the splinters will come to the surface and pop out in a small blister. It is amazing stuff. Why do this? because it cuts down dramatically the amount of time these annoyances bother you.... Kathleen --------------------------------- Don't let your dream ride pass you by. Guest guest
LOL, Lori, that is funny! I like to write with pens that write very dark (so much of the black ink out there is gray, which just won't do!) and I am shameless when I use a pen at the doctor's office or store - if I like the way it writes, I'll ask if I could trade another pen of mine for it! Guest guest
Does inflammation play a role in Fibro? I haven't had a chance to do much reading on the topic and I was wondering how this abcessed tooth is affecting the fibro or the fibro is affecting it. I've never had an abcess go on this long, especially with taking antibiotics. Usually the pain and swelling has cleared up in 24-48 hours after starting the antibiotics. This is way worse than what I've ever had before. Any thoughts? Guest guest
Yes Angie, I have a thought. Don't know if it is worth anything but when I had the two abscesses recently the oral surgeon said that antibiotics don't help this type of abscess very much if at all. The surgery really helped. Guest guest
OK, I'll hold out until Wednesday. You are right about the pocketbook. I can't believe they consider dental work a luxury when it can come on without warning and take you out just like any other illness. I've got to show up Wednesday with $300 cash for what the insurance doesn't cover.
