Dear Beverly,

My apologies for being so late in welcoming you. My husband has taken over

the computer. The cardiologist told us he needed to take it easy and sitting

here keeps him out of trouble, but it means that we're probably going to have

to put another phone line in for the other computer.:-) A small price to

pay.

Prayers are with you and your husband.

Hi Diane-- just my opinion but you may want to try healing the gut a

little first before you try enzymes. My son, I believe has leaky gut

and he could not tolerate enzymes. I hope to try them again maybe in

a month or two and see how he does. L glutamine helps heal, so does

colostrum... you might want to check out Kirkman Labs website and

look at their online gut protocol, or call one of the reps...they

sell colostrum and other things that heal. Kirkman products are

casein/gluten free, yeast free, etc., so that's why I am using them,

but there are many other companies, too.

I hope to try the new pep and the no-fenol enzymes with my son. He

did SO well on the old peptizyme for the first 4 days-- it was

wonderful. I find myself dreaming about enzymes-- in fact, I had an

enzyme dream today-- I just want him to be able to tolerate them!

Good luck!

Dear Kathy,

I have subtle hypothyroidism so while I may suffer some of the same

symptoms I am sure not all. However I would like to welcome you to our

group, I am relatively new too and have really enjoyed learning from

people who have dealt with hypothyroidism for a lot longer that me and

been through a lot more docs than me.

Sincerely,

Hi Kathy, welcome to the group. It generally takes about six to

twelve weeks to get your thyroid back to normal if you have the right

dosage of thyroid replacement.

When I was diagonised with Hypothyroidism, my TSH was 246, but I did

not have any symptoms at that point in time in the sense I had no

problem in carrying out my day to activities. But now when I think

about it in retrospect, I realise how fat and swollen my face looked!

I guess I was an exception, because the doctor said that she was

surprised that I was even able to get out of bed.

Normal syptoms are: tiredness, sleepiness, dry brittle

skin/hair/nails, swelling in legs, irregular periods, puffy face,

weight gain, feeling cold etc...

Carol,

Welcome to the group. I have some comments, questions and suggestions.

I suffered with gran mal seizures for 34 years, before I finally got

educated about my own epileptic condition. Thanks to getting properly

educated about my particular situation - looking at the "big picture" rather

than just stopping seizures - I have been able to become drug-free.

I encourage you to try as best you can to get to the root of the problems

you face. Rather than being focused solely on bringing seizures under

control (as I was for many years), be focused on improving your overall

quality of life. This is not to say ignore a seizure problem; but

rather, don't think that simply stopping seizures removes all the

problems. Sometimes taking drugs to stop seizures creates other problems.

That is certainly what happened to me. My memory, eyesight and facial

features were adversely affected by the drugs I was taking to prevent gran

mal seizures. But, I didn't realize it for many years because I was

only focused on controlling my seizures.

How much do you know about your epileptic condition? Do you know

why you are epileptic? Do you know what it is that triggers your

seizures? Have you ever gotten a copy of your own medical records

and read what the doctors have actually written about you? Have you

ever sent your records to a doctor just to get a second opinion?

Have you checked out our Bookmarks section for website resources which

may be beneficial to you?

If you have not checked out the s-Reiter

website, I encourage you to do so. You can actually post questions

about your condition to this clinic. It treats nothing but epilepsy.

If you visit the website, you can leave email messages. In so doing,

you will receive a personal answer from their head of therapy research.

But, that is not all. If you send them a copy of your medical records,

they will give you an evaluation for FREE. Why would a clinic do

this? Because they truly want to help people. And, they won't

know who they can and cannot help until they see the medical records.

People who qualify for s-Reiter's treatment protocols come to their

clinic for a five-day intensive evaluation. This evaluation utilizes

the best that both neurology and psychology has to offer. Yhe clinic

has been around for more than 20 years. They must be doing something

right. People from all across the nation and around the world come

to their clinic in Santa , CA.

Perhaps in some way they can help you. The journey begins by asking

questions via email.

Good luck.

I'd love to hear about you and what you've learned as you face your

for my seizures. Truly, I have often felt as though my doctors were

advocating for the drugs they prescribe, rather than for me.

I look forward to reading what you have to say, and have been intrigued

Dear Lamar,

In answer to your questions, most of what I know about my epileptic condition I

have learned on my own. I have probably been having seizures most of my life,

but was only diagnosed one year ago, this month. As the result of an EEG, I was

told that I have complex partial seizures that begin in the left temporal lobe

of my brain and progress into generalized absence seizures. Currently, I have

between 5 and 15 per day, and though I never have less, when I am hungry,

dehydrated, over-tired or excessively stressed, I can have many more.

Currently, I am " interviewing " three new neurologists because I have had such

horrible experiences with the last two I have seen. In the Denver area, there

is a shortage of neurologists, so it takes approximately three months to get an

appointment with a specialist, even though my insurance doesn't require a

referral. Naturopaths are not licensed in Colorado, so they are not covered by

insurance, nor are accupuncturists or several other " alternative " types of

providers.

I have e-mailed the s-Reiter clinic in Santa , and they have

responded, asking for a telephone consultation. In addition, I am working with

a nutritionist who has a Ph.D. in biochemistry to find some approaches that do

not involve drugs. I have found that vitamin B-12 injections, along with a

prescribed sublingual B complex, helps immensely. Additionally, magnesium,

calcium, manganese, gamma-linolic acid, and amino acids, like Taurine,

Acetyl-L-Carnitine and dimethylglycine are helpful. Still, I have not found the

" silver bullet " that alleviates all of my seizures.

I do know that wheat (specifically gluten) and cow's milk are agitators, and I

am looking at other food sensitivities. There also seem to be some

environmental issues, such as insect sprays, lawn fertilizers and gas emissions.

These things I've eliminated from my life, as much as is possible. I suspect

strong links between my endocrine system (due to low blood sugar) and my

gastrointestinal tract, since the height of my seizure activity was realized

when I learned I was gluten intolerant. I also have some circulatory issues,

like Reynaud's Syndrome that may figure into this mess somehow.

Your advice to keep sight of the " big picture " is very helpful. Since I have

become housebound, it seems like epilepsy is controlling me, instead of me

controlling my own life. I also have not checked out the " Bookmarks " section,

which I look forward to researching.

Thank you for those great suggestions!

Welcome Kate,

Did the Rhuemy start you on anything? Celebrex, Vioxx

etc...?

Don't let him drag his feet. You need to have

agressive treatment, as I am sure you have seen in

some of the most recent posts.

I hope you got a good Rhuemy, and he gets you started

on the Methotrexate (MTX) or something comperable.

Don't be " Very Afraid " , just be very agressive, with

the desease and the doc.

Good Luck, and we are always here to listen to you and

your vents.

Thanks ,

Just starting to get into the lingo of all this! My Rheumy is

lovely, very quick diagnosis - has put me on Celebrex to review in 4

months. If its not working at that stage I'll be onto Sulpha

something or other? So he's going to try Celebrex alone but seems

very open to stronger medication if necessary.

I haven't yet read all the archives but from what I've read so far my

diagnosis was quite quick, the Dr who referred me had already

mentioned PA whilst referring, although I suppose given the state of

my nails and scalp due to psoriasis it was quite an obvious choice

Aside from the medications prescribed by Rheumys are there any

exercises, diets that have been particularly useful in easing the

progress of PA?

Hi Rhonda,

I'm not " a regular " here, and I don't know much about enzymes,

so just bear that in mind, and other people will answer too!

Mercury I do know about. Here is info on how to test for mercury

and other heavy metals. You can read it over. If it is way

confusing, wait a few days and then read it again:

/files/HOW_TO_hair_test

The test itself is non-invasive and reasonably cheap (as tests

go hahahaha). It is the part about understanding the results

that may be a bit confusing.

The kirkman's ones are better for some people. The houston ones

are better for other people. I really don't know why. Since

you like to try everything, perhaps you will want to try one

for a while and then the other. And one may work for your

daughter much better, so your experimenting will pay off ;)

Oh, well, if you want to learn those things you can. Like if

it is fun you could try it. (Hey, I must be in a good mood!)

For instance:

1. open a browser

2. go to this URL:

/messages

3. look for a little " empty box " with a " button " next to it

that says " search archive " .

4. type a word in the " empty box " . For example, you could

try any of these: sensory, DMG, mercury, SID, nursing

[just pick any ONE of those words]

5. click on " search archive " button.

6. now you will get a list of some messages that people wrote

in the past which included the word you typed in the box.

7. click on the subject of one of the messages to read it.

Most of the messages won't have all that much to do with

your situation, but you will probably find something that

is useful and interesting if you read a bunch of messages.

best wishes,

Moria

Hi Rhonda,

I am very very new to this group too. Just joined last weekend. My son is

24 months. He's been on the GFCF diet since 19 1/2 months. Is your daughter

on the diet? Also, my son does take Houston enzymes and so far so good. But

we do not do it in place of the diet like some folks. I am not that

courageous yet.

My son also takes CLO. I plan to start him on probiotics next Monday. I

just started Ojibwa tea and want to see what that does first....make sure no

bad reactions before I start something new.

This group is nothing less than terrific. They gave me the warmest welcome.

Good luck!

-Rhonda,

Welcome!! If you get a second I would love a link to the girls

autism group(I have an 8yr old daughter.) To start, I recommend

clicking into the files section(look to the left of your screen) and

just start reading. There is alot of information. Personally, I

highly recommend Houston's enzymes. We actually tried Kirkman's first

because my daughter used to take TMG and SNT from there(we stopped

them after starting enzymes because she no longer needed them) but I

didn't see the great results others were seeing using Houston's.

Also, Kirkman's say theirs won't replace the gfcf diet and I wanted

that for my daughter-to be off that nightmare(in my opinion) of a

diet. It seemed like she was constantly coming up with new food

sensitivities and it scared me where that road was going. My daughter

is 8 and has been on the enzymes...hmmm just about 7mo now and is

doing great. She is long since off the diet. We just did a Great

Plains Organic Acid Test and found out she has some bacteria

overgrowth so will be treating that with probiotics. We had an up and

down summer as she adjusted to the No Fenol but she has made HUGE

strides and I'm looking forward to what she will accomplish in second

grade :-) Good luck and let us know how it goes if you decide to try

enzymes.

Hi Lis,

Welcome to the group and congratulations on getting the help he

needs at a young age. I'm sure he'll do very well. Just had to tell you

that I know how you feel about the bus going to preschool. I actually drove

my daughter and picked her up every day last year because she was basically

nonverbal and I just couldn't bring myself to send her on the bus. This

summer I decided to put her on the bus and she absolutely loves it. Today

was the last day of the summer program and she is so sad that its over. She

has made the most amazing progress with her speech, partially due to school,

ProEFA, great therapists, and a lot of carry over at home. Its hard in the

beginning, but you are doing the right thing!

This is where fat goes when it leaves you.

Do you follow any special exercise plan, like 's videos,

Sansone, just plain old walking or calesthenics?

This is great. My doc never really was too concerned about my weight nor did

he give me any hints or tips on how to lose it. When I did the very low fat

vegetarian plan (McDougall) he just shrugged, said fine, wahtever I want to

do, and left it at that. He was happy when I lost the 50 pounds, but not too

happy when I gained some of it back.

He knows I wouldn't try any fad diet nor any potentially life-threatening

weight loss pill, so I guess that's why he leaves me alone.

On the other hand, the doc I saw in FL (who happens to be my doc's brother

in law) immediately wanted me on 1000 calories, Meridia and Xenical. He was

annoyed when I refused. I ws so glad to be rid of that guy when we came back

to Jersey!

Thanks. A lot of people requested I continue to send them (I just started

enough to delete without opening because I write in the subject header what

When reading Sue's reply to my original post I noticed something funny -

- at least to me - - I had used spellcheck for the word " menstrual " and

it had auto corrected it to " menopausal " to me that is horribly funny.

I am definitely still a menstrual being... or as I refer to myself for

that handful of days each month " monstrual " ;-)

Sorry, but I'm still a 30-something But based on how much

it's helped my elder sister, according to her husband & kids, I will be

doing the progesterone cream or whatever when my time comes around ;-)

because by the time I got around to getting my own home scale that goes

up to 325 pounds I had already lost many pounds / inches based on fit of

clothing... and was weighing about 305 pounds. My physician

estimated that I weighed about 310 at the start of this year, so that is

what I use as my admitted highest weight.

Hmmm I was 310+ I am 285 I want to be 160 (plus

something for hoped for added muscle mass...), so if I were to be

signing my emails the way I've seen someone else... I'd be:

Aw, shucks! And I was hoping for another peri-menopausal woman here like

myself. There aren't too many of us.

As mine wind down, each month is becoming lighter and less crampy. Hubby

even admits I'm not as witchy (with a B) as I used to be. Well, for *that*

rason, at least. I'm still my old self, otherwise. ;)

Good stuff, that cream.

[ ] I'm new

Hello,

I want to state at the outset that I do not have cancer far as I know

although I am at higher than average risk.

My best friend died 2 years ago from cancer treatment; I am very

interested in alternative cures. If I am not welcome please let me know

and I will

unsubscribe. Best Wishes to All, Suzy

Here are some links you might want to investigate.

I can only speak for myself but anyone curious enough to look into the horrific

scam doctors foist

on us and our children is welcome and wanted. Those of us that are interested

enough in truth and

health to question those interested in making money on destroying our health is

the reason for

these groups. Please share any insights and knowledge you have and or gain as a

result of your

quest.
