Liz,

I do fast walking on the treadmill five mornings a week. When I go

fast enough to feel it in my cheeks, then I cut back just a tad. This is a

compromise that works for me, but then, I never was one for really vigorous

exercise. But, this way, at least I'm helping my heart with some exercise,

and not damaging my face.

Hi Liz,

Before I knew exercise had anything to do with my rosacea triggers, I used to

walk 3-4 miles a day, plus do long bike rides or hikes on the weekends. I would

walk outside or use the gym at work.

Now, I can't do that! :-( Boo Hoo!!! For me it's the worst thing to give up for

keeping the rosacea beast at bay. What I do now is walk early in the morning

and try to keep a slow pace so I don't sweat. Also, I use my husband's

treadmill and walk for two twenty intervals a day if I don't feel like going

outside. I drink ice water to cool myself down if I get overheated. If I don't

break a sweat when I'm exercising that seems to do the trick. I can't use the

gym at work because it's always hot as heck in there after a few minutes of

light exercise.

I guess I'm in the camp that has moderated my exercise habits. I'd rather be

in the rosacea-free camp like I'm sure everyone else would. Matija

I thought about giving up on my exercise, however, it helps me "mentally"

so much I can't give it up. What I did was change my routine.

I now have my own workout room in my house and I have a large fan that

blows the entire time. I lift weights for about 20 min and then I

will do various tapes that are more geared toward stretch and tone, very

little aerobic. But just that, keeps my mind and body in shape.

I am not sure if this will help but I know how you feel!

Liz, I know how you feel because I used to exercise vigorously at least

five times a week and felt pretty good about myself...... and then I

realised I had rosacea. I was determined not to give up the exercise and

did keep it up for quite a while. It didn't seem to make any difference

to my skin and made me feel better to be able to carry on as normal.

In the past year my redness has become much worse and I've reluctantly

had to modify the exercise a lot. I found it hard at first, but have

now got used to exercising for 15 minutes at a time, at a MUCH lower

intensity, and always in a cool atmosphere. It really helps me mentally

to keep up with some form of exercise as it was a big part of my life,

and I'm trying to think of this as a temporary setback!

Hi all,

I'm in the change the routine and use a fan camp. I used to walk outside

sometime between 6-9pm but it gets so hot here in the summer. I try to do

things indoors with my kids (Elmocize, anyone?) and with a fan blowing on

me. I often use our Baby's room air purifier as my fan so that the air

blowing in my face is essentially allergen free as well!

I am a 42 year old male and have had rosacea for at least 12 years. I think I

would go crazy if I didn't jog every day. I run early in the morning to avoid

the midday sun and heat and drink a lot of water to cool down. In the winter I

put on a nice thick coat of sunscreen to protect me from the cold and wind. In

my case it relaxes me and I believe I look better. I hope this helps.

Hi Debbie,

I would exercise more, I know it, if I were not so heavy. It is painful

to even walk with this weight on my poor skeleton. I find swimming is

good, especially in the hot weather, but it's really not enough for me.

I'm looking forward to losing a lot of weight so I can get back into

working out. Exercise can be quite fun if you know what you're doing

and make a good time out of it, especially if you have a good consistent

partner.
