Guest guest
I've been through this same thing twice, but you know what, it's your life we are talking about. I like my present neuro but I have no problem with telling him I want another opinion. I'm desperate here and he knows it. I ask him the same stupid questions every time I see him, " Is there any else I could try or see? " He never acts arrogant. Ask your neuro for a referral. Sophia ANGRY > I have just tried calling three neurologist in this area and because I'm currently seeing someone is this area they will not see me. It's 'AGAINST OUR POLICY " they say. So, you go to someone once, and YOUR STUCK FOR LIFE?!?!!? This seems so unfair. There are many reasons why someone might want to change..... personality conflict, lack of trust, distance to travel, seeking someone who specializes more with your problems....etc. > > This is pitiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! > >
Guest guest
Hi If you are not satisfied with your present Neuro in Australia, you can insist with your local General Doctor to be referred to another Neuro. And in Australia it is the patient's right to get that second referral. I am not sure what your rights would be as a patient over in your country. But if I was you I would check up on your rights as a patient concerning this matter. Keep trying and hang in there. I have been down that track and found a second Neuro. that listens to me and he is great. Hang in there. Regards Kerri
Guest guest
Sophia, Becky S. is in a PPO (preferred provider plan) where you use doctors approved by the plan. Those plans usually make you get all referrals from your GP who is the one person that handles the management of your case. If you use doctors outside the PPO network, the cost of using them is not always paid by the plan. It would be very unuasal for a specialist to refer you to another specialist under a PPO and unlikely in any case as your primary care physician is the one who keeps track of all the meds you are taking. Actually, that is the best way to get good health care anyway. We have been using the same GP since 1976 and he always finds us great specialists. I noted in one of her emails, that Becky has not seen her GP but once since she started this round of tests and specialists. Becky, who are you seeing for test results? Specialists often do not take the time to explain negative test results to you, and leave that to your referring GP after they send the final report. They usually DO explain why they are running any tests and positive results if they feel you need more tests. They will prescribe medicines and tell you what they are for. If they prescribe medicines they usually have you come back to see if you are having any side effects from the meds. Guest guest
My problem isn't with getting test results, but that I am in search of another neurologist. I won't go into my reasons again, there's no need. It's simply my right. Many on this list have gone through several to find the one they trust. There hasn't been a need to see my GP, she has not asked that I come in for routine checkups. She can't help me with the symptoms I'm having now, that was the reason for her referral. I will find another neuro.... Will just time extra time. When I do, I'll call and ask her to refer me. Guest guest
Becky, Yes, you do need to find a neuro you can trust. I have found Dr. Shields at C.C. to be that person. I will probably not be seeing him very often, but I know he's there is I do need to. Like Bill said, specialists don't take time to go over test results with you. They really do leave that up to your GP. My GP is great and explains everything to me very thoroughly. Do you have a GP that you can really talk to? If you can't find a local neuro that you can communicate with, then I'd get that appt. with Dr. Shields ASAP. He'll tell you what he thinks you have and will order the appropriate tests. I hope you have a great weekend! Love, ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! Guest guest
My GP is working on a referral to Dr Shields already. I've heard great things about him. I guess I assumed I'd also need a neuro closer, but perhaps not. Thanks . You won't be seeing Dr. Chelimsky again then? Re: ANGRY Becky, Yes, you do need to find a neuro you can trust. Guest guest
Becky, No, I don't think I'll be seeing Dr. Chelimsky again, so far as I know. He was just there to interpret the test results and send them on to Dr. Shields. I'm starting to get the hang of how these things work, I think! I don't even know if I'll be seeing Dr. Shields again, unless something major comes up. Hope you're feeling well. Love, On Thu, 17 Aug 2000 10:53:13 -0400 " Skeens, G.
