I was wondering what all in involved in have a ladband put on over the

bypass? If you have a chance could you explain it to me, please. I am

thinking about having it done if the Drs. around here do that, I know

you said it is a new procedure.

Thank you,

Hi ,

It is a fairly new procedure. When I had mine back in August, my

surgeron had only done probably 3 or 4. My problem was that after

being 7 years out, I needed the added restriction. I had gained about

40 pounds of the original weight I had lost with my RNY. My procedure

was done open, he basically just cut along my old scar line. He does

not do them laporscopic. I was in the hospital for 3 days. And he

installed a " Lap-Band " , which I dont know if you know much about them,

but basically it is a band that was placed over my RNY. Basically it

is a band at the top of my stomach that helps restrict going into the

pouch. It reminds me to fully chew and also gives me a " full

sensation " much quicker than w/o it. When they install the band it is

empty, and then depending on your progress they add saline to make it

tighter. I have had 2 fills and will be going for my third in a couple

weeks. I guess once the " sweetspot " is found, it works best. I have

heard that it can take 5 -6 times to find the exact spot it needs to

be for your body. The main thing the doctor had to stress, which is

what I have mentally having a hard time with right now is that... with

the RNY the weight loss is so quick, with the band it is much slower,

and with the revision (putting the band over the RNY) it is even

slower. In the last 8 months I have lost about 35 pounds. So, as you

can see its MUCH slower then with my RNY. The doctor said once the

band gets to be where it needs to be, I should be happy with 1-2

pounds a week.

I feel like I am rambling now, so hopefully I answered some of the

questions you might have. And if you have any more at all, please let

me know. I dont mind talking about it at all.
