Don't know if it would work for you but maybe you could ask your doc

about Lantus, it's a 24 hr. with pretty much no peak. Just takes around

an hr from injection to fully kick in. I'm on 1 shot of Lantus (26

units) at around 9 pm, and Humalog at each meal (6-8 units). The Lantus

seems to keep everything pretty steady between meals and takes care of

the btwn meal snacks that I need on my busy/active days. That's just me

though....

Hi Stefan

We are being told there is a Canada wide shortage of Humulin N in the 10 ml

vial. The pens are available so that doesn't seem to make any sense. Most here

feel that Eli Lilly is withholding shipments of this and other meds( many

pharmacists agree) to Manitoba. We have this big issue of online internet

pharmacies going on right now and the drug company's are not very happy with us.

It's a big deal with 3000 people being employed and they feel this is cutting

into their U.S. market. Quite frankly with the prices they are charging in the

U.S. I can't blame people and our online pharmacies are not exactly giving it

away either. Lots of profit being made.

Anyway am off to the pool (ugh), I need the exercise. It's -16 here now and

that is doing nothing to inspire me.

Hi Chant,

I take Humulin N as well, but haven't heard of the shortage you

mentioned and I just got a package of Hum N on Thursday. Next time

I'm in to see the pharmacist I'll ask. Should be this week as my

Humalog is getting low.

If it's really a problem to obtain N in your area, contact your doctor

to see if s/he can switch you to U for the time being, until the

shortage sorts itself out.

N and U are pretty close in total duration time. N peaks in 6 hours

and last for 24, U peaks in 12 and lasts for around 26. Seeing how

both are pretty low impact to BGLs the switch shouldn't require any

additional snacking to avoid night time hypos. Of course only your

doctor will be able to tell you for certain if you can or should switch.

Hi Mike

If I can't find the Humulin N I will have to switch to Novolin N. Just know

this one so well :) I will research the Lantus though, have used NPH

for 20+ years.

thx
