If she is a 14 yr old I am wondering if she is Type 1. If she is type 1 her eating habits have nothing to do with her highs. If she is type 1 let me know. There is another list. One with nothing but parents of type 1 kids that will give you tons more info and support on Type 1 than just this list can do. No offense to this list...I still am here, you guys are great! But as a parent to a type 1 child I needed a lot more support than this list alone was offering on the topic which is literally a totally different disease than type 2. hugs Keri Single Mom to Krissy 15, 11, Donnie 8 type 1, and 5. hugs Keri Single Mom to Krissy 15, 11, Donnie 8 type 1, and 5. Guest guest
Just a thought... When I get cramps, I do yoga. A stretch called cat stretch. Makes me feel WONDERFUL! get on all fours with hands just under shoulders, and knees just under hips. Raise the back slowly, arching like a " scared " cat, breathing deeply the whole time. make sure shoulders are rolled down with the head. Then lower back, causing a slight arch with head lifted up. repeat slowly, and while deeply breathing a few times. I do this also when I have lower back pain and it helps allot. There are some great websites online that show the poses and how to do them better than I can explain. Though, yes blood sugar can be affected by hormonal changes in the body. If her bleeding and such don't get better in a day or so, I would say that she needs a lower dose of birthcontrol pill, or a different type. They make a great low dose one now. I was on birth control for over a year, and it messed my system up pretty badly. But I can see where it can help out here. Get her in a warm bath, or put a heating pad on her abdomen. Getting up and moving will help out quite a bit, but I remember friends that were in so much pain that they couldn't get out of bed without help. even to pee. Good job on getting her sugars under at least some control. I am sure that she will realize that it is the way that she is eating, as well as the inactivity that is causing some of these highs. We all have our days... Angelia in OR ----- Original Message ----- > My question is this - will having your period affect > your blood sugar? Guest guest
I'm not sure if she's type 1? Since we just got her 2 months ago, we are still learning and have a visit scheduled this month to a specialist who deals with children who have diabetes. She has had diabetes for 2 years, and only treating it for one year. Her mother, maternal aunts, and maternal AND paternal grandmothers all have diabetes, but her 2 sisters and one brother do not. I don't know what decides between type 1 and type 2. We finally got her up and moving around today, and I believe her blood sugars were fine (I work overnights and am usually sleeping when she tests; I only really hear about the high tests). Type 1 and type 2 are two completely different diseases. Have you checked her urine for ketones? If she was laying in bed with no energy she NEEDS a ketone check. They sell the strips at any pharmacy. If she has any sign of ketones in her urine she needs to go to the doc now. Good Luck, it sounds like you have a lot of learning and adjusting ahead for your family! hugs Keri Single Mom to Krissy 15, 11, Donnie 8 type 1, and 5. Guest guest
Insulin is a hormone. The endocrine system, which produces hormones, is very interdependant--do something to one part of it, and the rest will react. Accordingly, it is logical that a diabetic lady's blood sugar control might slip during her monthlies. This is why, even when HRT was fashionable, many OB-GYNs and endocrinologists did not perscribe it for their diabetic patients. However, in your stepdaughter's case, I'd consult her doctor, either her GYN or her ENDO. Question about blood sugar and periods My question is this - will having your period affect your blood sugar?
