The Panniculectomy is the removal of the lower hanging stomach. It is a cheek to cheek cut along the groin area, and everything from there down is cut off and disgarded. The Abdominoplasty is the same incisional procedure but it goes upwards towards your breast area. The abdominal muscles are tightened and similar to pulling down a shirtail.....the excess skin is stretched down and cut off......producing a flatter tighter stomach area. This is not really up for that much of a debate.....cause I just went thru both procedures and have pictures of the skin that was removed. What pics!!!! The pan looked like a stingray without a tail, and the abdominoplasty looked like 2 large tenderloins.....lol.
Guest guest
Greetings: The Panni is NOT more extensive......the abdominoplasty will encompass both procedures, whereas the pan just removes the skin below the incision. Because of all the skin and the weight that I lost and was originally, my surgeon opted to do the 2 procedures separately. Who knows....perhaps he needed an addition in his house.....whatever the case....I just thought I would address your question. Bear in mind that I am no doctor and the only meat I have ever cut into was on my plate....lol Sincerely....baron
Guest guest
I too asked the same thing and my doctor told me the same but what I just had is no simple tt. Just from reading, the pann is more extensive by removing fat skin and other tissue. I am confused about it all tooo. How are you doing now that it is 5 months later? I just had a hernai repair, three of them and a abdominoplasty 1 week ago today. nicole horvath On Tue, 18 Apr 2000 08:43:44 EDT, Graduate-OSSGegroups wrote: > This sounds silly, but what is the difference between a panniculectomy and an > abdominoplasty? Guest guest
Believe me, if you saw my pann, it was more extensive.....hahahaha The last note on the abdom/pann cleared things up for me. See, we sometimes can get more information out there than from our own doctors. Go figure. So you had the abdom done separate fromt he panniculectomy? Can I ask baron, what were you doctor's fees? My ps charged $4400.00 and I am waiting for insurance to see how much they paid out of that. Guest guest
I guess I have to throw in my $.02 since I had my consult yesterday. The panniculectomy removes the " pannus " which is the hanging part. " Abdominoplasty " just means plastic surgery of the abdomen which might or might not include a lot of things. Like " rhinoplasty " is surgery of the " rhino " or nose, " mammoplasty " is surgery on the breasts. I think people who have a panniculectomy are also having abdominoplasty, but not necessarily vice-versa. I felt kind of half-hearted about having all this done, since last year was the year of the face-lift which turned out to be more work, pain than expected (looks great BTW, pictures anyone?) I was shocked it costs so much. It's going to be somewhere between 15 & 20 grand, but includes: abdominoplasty, which he says will pull up the thighs in the front scar revision, of the rny scar which will pull in skin tighter from the sides chest lift, which will pull the crinkly skin up into my armpits and do the top of my arms " binelli " which we then relocate my nipples out of their new position somewhere near the armpit to where they should be butt lift, which will take care of the love handles, lower back, and pull the butt up so as to lose the wrinkles at the bottom. They said two surgeries, done as an outpatient in their suite, but I decided I'd do it in three stages. I only have " crepy " skin and don't have fat tissue to remove due to previous liposuctions, so I'm not afraid to go home the same day with the supervision of a good friend and my 4-pound yorkie who is oh so very helpful. Guest guest
Hi , I am glad someone pointed out a difference! I have been hearing about all these drains and just wondering. I did the TT, boobs and thighs [all at the same time] and never had one drain. No panni as the TT was enough to handle what extra skin there was. It sure sounds like you plan to have a LOT of PS. There are two ways to look at it... I was always one to do it all now... get through the pain and then it is over for good. When I did the TT, boobs and thighs I admit it was tough to move! No leg muscles, no stomach muscles and couldn't use the arms. If I had to do all over again... I'd do it the same way. I would not have wanted to go through that three times. The key here is really what type of help you will have after the surgery. If you have someone with you it will just be dealing with the pain. If you do NOT have help slow down. I wish you the best of luck. I am sure you will be thrilled afterwards. It real is the icing on the cake!
