Guest guest
Yes, I have met some rather dumb derms and even (unknowingly) taken the med's they prescribed (oral corts and topical corts) if you can believe it. I paid dearly for my own ignorance. Call your local pharmacist and talk with them about other antibiotics that might work for you w/o the bladder infection side effect. I find that my pharmacist is more knowledgeable about everything that's currently prescribed. Im sure that it would help alot and maybe you could get off of the antibiotics. Bill- You took Accutane, right? How much of a dosage (you or anyone else who has) did you take? How good is it working. I have heard a very low dosage can do a lot of good. My derm in Va. told me that taking Accutane would not cause a remisson for rosacea like it did for acne. Is this true - or is it possible to get into a remission with it? The only thing about accutane is that many derms are hesistant to prescribe it - especially for females my age. I have never had oily skin in my life - even as teenager - my skin was always dry - especially the past few years with the rosacea. However, within the past couple of months my skin has done a total 180 - it is now oily!! I have to keep powdering my face up at work constantly or it looks extremely oily. I don't have bad acne problems (maybe thats in the future...you never know). Just an occasional zit here or there. So weird..... Guest guest
ohh. I forgot to mention - I called my derm yesterday and got an appt. for tomorrow (Friday) morning. Whew! I made sure I let that girl know I WAS NOT going to wait for 2 weeks!!! She kept repeating the same thing over and over - I guess she didn't know what else to say, " Dr. So-and-So wants you to just use the topicals for the next two weeks " . Like that was gonna do the job!! Donna G. ------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will go back to this derm one last time because I need my medication - but after that - that's it!! I miss my old dermatologist - he always took the time to answer my questions and would call me back on the phone personally. Of course, he didn't do this all the time (I sure he was busy) but when I had a question about something and there was no way any of his assistants could help - he would talk to me himself! Unfortunately, I cannot take erythromycin - I am allergic to penicillin and sulfa drugs. This new derm should be good - the office has 13 derms - it is evidently part of Hopkins. The place is called " Hopkins Dermatology Physicians " . One nice thing about living here in Baltimore - there are plenty of doctors to choose from (unlike rural NC). Guest guest
Donna, I took Accutane for five months last year and was on the maximum daily dose for my weight (3x20mg). It worked wonders for me, no cysts any more nor oily skin. The dryness I " suffered " during the course was in fact a relief and could be tolerated and dealt with quite easily. Women should keep in mind that Accutane and pregnancy do not mix! They are adviced to use a reliable contraception during and for one month after treatment. Accutane causes severe birth deffects. I highly recommend Gillian Chinns site on Accutane: http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Spa/2738/ Best wishes, Thor. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
