Guest guest
, My name is Carla K. I live in WA too. On Fidalgo Island just West of Burlington. Dr. in Marietta, Georgia does the DS lap. Someone else here on the list can tell you who else does it lap, I don't remember who the other one(s) is(are). Dr. Welker in Portland, Oregon does DS but I don't remember if he does it lap or not. Dr. Welker post-ops are the ones who could tell you this. Oh, by the way, WELCOME to the family!!!!!! So glad you made your way here. Keep posting so we can get to know you, keep reading so you can get to know us. You have a lot of reading to do, we like to keep the list hopping, so pull up your favorite chair and sit awhile. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Guest guest
Thanks, Tiger You ask a good question. Yes, I investigated the entire site before joining the list. Great site! Thanks, Mel. The site does not clarify lap or open options associated with names of the surgeries. That is also true on the database resources at the list website. Have read or surveyed abstracts of much professional literature written over the past 20 years about the various gastric surgeries done for (or causing) weight loss. Have looked at many other websites providing information about WLS (pro and con) and have joined other mail lists to obtain more information about pre and post surgical issues. My daughter, also an avid researcher and obese adult looking at surgical options, has found resources I have missed. And once I joined this list I scanned many posts in the archives to get a sense of the list culture and its governance. Your observations that there isn't anyone doing this procedure in Washington State seems confirmed by my research. Many more are doing the VGB and various versions of the RNY. Interesting. If I missed anything I trust you and others to point me in the right direction. It takes time to identify all the links and sources of information. There seems to be a high knowledge base in this list. Glad to be here. Thanks again, M in Seattle ----- Original Message ----- > : > > Welcome to our crazy group! Guest guest
Carla, What a beautiful part of the state you're in. Thanks for the info about Dr . I'll also check with Dr Welker at OHSU (my alma mater) to see what options are there. I'm curious about your consultation at the end of next Feb 2001. Is the schedule that full that you can't get in before then? Or other reasons? Thanks for the pointers. Appreciate your prompt response. Guest guest
Carla, What a beautiful part of the state you're in. Why, thank you , I think so too. Is the schedule that full that you can't get in before then? Yes, it is that full. Always a chance there is a cancelation. I plan on calling back often to find out. Appreciate your prompt response. Just glad I killed the computer after I read your responce and not before. I had to run Quick Restore and lost EVERYTHING I had saved. Now I have to go back through the archives and try to start over. I should find most every thing, just didn't want to take that long. Sounds like you have been doing your homework . Keep up the good work. There is one Dr. in WA that does the DS. He currently is not taking new patients right now so he is out for us. He is listed on the AMOS site as doing the RNY. I talked to his receptionist and she said that he IS doing the DS. Since my files are gone I will have to get the info. from there again. His practice is in Eastern WA. The site > does not clarify lap or open options associated with names of > the surgeries. Can you clarify, I'd like to help if I can. Maybe it's time to highlight the lap DS surgeons on the surgeon list. Until now, I hadn't done that simply because I didn't want to give any appearance of preference or recommending one over the other, but I'm seeing now that that really isn't the issue; people want to know who does the DS lap, so I need to let them know. I'll see about doing that ASAP. Guest guest
Don't forget NYC. I was amazed yesterday when I called and was able to get a consult with Dr Herron for 10/12. Maybe it is because Drs Herron and Gagner have a four Dr. Practice. You might still make your New Year goal. Guest guest
Welcome M! There is a whole list of doctors that can be accessed at www.duodenalswitch.com Dr Welker in Portland, OR has a very loyal following here and may be one that is closer than most. Guest guest
, What I meant is that the lists do not indicate which surgical procedures for WL that particular surgeon does. (i.e. DS, Lap DS, RNY, Lap RNY) I am specifically looking for a surgeon that does the Lap DS and the lists fail to identify which ones meet that criteria. If all the procedures they offer are listed with each name, then no preference is indicated. thanks, M marym@... ----- Original Message ----- > , I'm not sure what you mean by, " lap or open options associated with > names of the surgeries " . Some of the Ds surgeons also do other procedures, but I don't have the information as to exactly who does exactly what other than the DS. I have gone back and put an asterisk by the Lap DS surgeons' names on the DS site: http://www.duodenalswitch.com/Surgeons/surgeons.html I also added a short paragraph at the end of the Procedure page, indicating that Lap DS surgeons are asterisked on the Surgeons page: http://www.duodenalswitch.com/Procedure/procedure.html M. --- in Fremont, CA, age 38 Starting weight 299, now 183 Starting BMI 49.7, now 30.4 Lap DGB/DS by Dr. Rabkin 10-19-99 http://www.duodenalswitch.com Direct replies: mailto:melanie@... Guest guest
Hi M -- But they're on the DS Surgeons list BECAUSE they do the DS. You can't get on that list if you don't! Other WLS types that they may or may not do are moot for the site's purposes. Let's not clutter things up. Lap or open is as far as it should go, like Mel said earlier. I agree with her.
