Guest guest
Cammi, Welcome to OSSG pregnant. Where in NY are you located? There are a few of us from here, but, again, it's a big state. Congrats on your pregnancy, and I hear cravings are normal. I do have a question about your AFP. I know quite a few people who have had the postitive test result. That was followed up by an amniocentisis. Did your doctor mention this? You may want to ask about it, just to be sure. But, again, many of my friends who had the positive AFP result had a negative amnio reading. It is really nothing definitive and wrong alot of times. Feel free to ask away, we are a really helpful, friendly group...... Rita in NYC www.geocities.com/heartland/cottage/9829
Guest guest
Cammi, The advice I would give you is make sure you are getting plenty of protein each meal. That way the baby is at least getting that. WOW, how did your hubby take the news that you were pregnant? It was obviously meant to be!! Best of luck with you and the baby!! Guest guest
>>> Also had anyone had an abnormal AFP score?(ALPHAFETALPROTIEN) I did but it was nothing to worry about the dr. thinks the abnormal test result may have been caused by something deficient in my blood due to surgery. I was freaked out one day when some inconsiderate nurse called my house saying my baby was affected by downs syndrome. All from a screening test...nothing major nothing conclusive... There is a very high rate of false positives with the AFP. If you still feel uncomfortable about it, ask for another test. It is very important when the test is submitted the lab has your correct current weight and an accurate gestational age of your baby. Good Luck, Chris
Guest guest
cammi, Sorry for the delay in responding to your message but my computer was being repaired for a week and then we were at the shore for another week so I'm behind in everything!!! My story is similar to yours only a little quicker. I had surgery in Dec 98 and got pregnant in March 99. I'm 5 months pregnant now and my surgeon said to make sure that I just take those pre-natal vitamins daily and the baby will be fine. I'm eating everything in site (small quantities but everything) and it seems that I can take a few bites of my meal, be stuffed like, if I eat any more I will throw up, and then an hour later be starving. This baby is taking all he can get!! I do eat anything I can because I don't eat much. I am craving things like peanut brittle, which I couldn't find anywhere so I made my own. I'm also craving frozen stuff like ice cream and frozen bananas! I try to stick with the frozen bananas and stuff like fudge bars with one gram of fat, etc. Was doing the italian water ice thing during July but got tired of that. We just stick to frozen yogurt and low fat stuff. I've nevr had a problem with sugar since my surgery but don't do meats very well. Had a SMALL piece of steak last night nd that stayed very well. I try to eat cheese and peanuts and protein stuff and fresh fruit. Haven't had a craving for raw meat (yuckie) and hope I dont! haha. As far as the AFP or APF or whatever test, I wouldn't take it. No use getting upset. My friend whho is a doctor told me that a screening test is different than a diagnostic test. Screeing tests will screen anyone for ANYTHING that could POSSIBLY go wrong and it's very very vague and not very accurate as far as, if it says something wrong, theres a better chance that there is nothing wrong. Did thhat make sense? Well, anyways, I'm not having one or I'm not having an amnio either. My baby is being born in a hospital with a wonderful NICU (neo-natal intensive care unit) so, if there is something wrong, there will be plenty of people there to help out. I've lost 120 so far. I've gained 6 lbs the past 2-3 months but considering I'm 5 months pregnant, I think that's pretty good. Is it? You'll do fine. Stop stressing and enjoy this pregnancy. ALso, just keep taking your vitamins. I wish you well. Keep us informed. Margaret hello everyone > > >hello everyone. My name is cammi I am 28 years old from N.Y. and pregnant >with my fourth child. Guest guest
don't hate that, ? I hate it when I have to limit my typing time. I feel shut out from the world. We are switching to a new data base at work so I have to rewrite all of the assessment interviews and plans into the new system. It's killing my wrists. And since I have to function at work, it limits the time I can spend on-line in my private life. And mine isn't carpel tunnel, I have active trigger points in my wrists. ** , Stinky's caretaker** §-Desire-with it one can suceed in spite of overwhelming handicaps.
