Guest guest
Hi Fawnee, I don't like heat either. It is only 72 here in stown, PA, but VERY humid. Just had a rain shower. I also do as little as possible (wearing as little as possible!) but what I do do is in front of a fan. No air conditioning. Kitty

The heat really zaps me. I've been trying to get up earlier in the mornings and do my bike riding when it's still kind of cool out. If I wait until the evening, the bugs are too bad to ride. I take cool showers during the day. That seems to help. I don't have air conditioning but do take my big fan from room to room with me. Guest guest
Central air is a must in Las Vegas. We are putting on a swamp cooler next week. With the dry heat we have here, it should cut down on the electricity bills.
Guest guest
Well? Today here in Bellevue. Washington my Weatherbug says it reached a high of 96. I was at work though from 8:30 in the morning until 7:30 this evening where we have central air conditioning and it was plenty cool. Tomorrow is Saturday and more of the same they say. I think I will probably head for the Mall and live there for the hot part of the day. Otherwise I don't feel like eating, have a low bg episode and get sick. I don't know what else to do. Ken GreyEagle -- coping in HEAT! Okay--I just looked at the temp. weather online and it says in Salem, Oregon right now it is 101 degrees. I don't know how you folks fair in heat, but I don't. It makes me sick to my stomach and triggers migranes. I do as little as possible and stay inside. How do you cope? Fawnee
Guest guest
YIKES!!! Makes us Seattle area people look pretty sad, lol. Tell me most of you have central air conditioning in Las Vegas...I can't imagine how else you'd cope! We don't here in the Seattle area because it only gets this hot 3 days of the year (estimate). It's hot but more than that it is HUMID to the point that it feels like you are walking around in steam. My ankles are so swollen when it's like this. I had my house painted and yesterday morning I had the porch floor painted last and that was a dumb move... It is STILL wet and I have 9 people coming for breakfast in two hours. They will just have to come around back and come in that way I guess. Long walk, but I should have considered the humidity before I had it painted the day BEFORE people were coming. shirley jean

Guest guest
Today in the 100+ weather I plan to go out and wash the car by hand - it's some amount of 'exercise' and a great chance to play ni the water. Now if I could only get the kids to join me. Teenagers.
Guest guest
Oh gosh! I was in Tennessee the end of June for a week. I go every year to a Cherokee Gathering in Monteagle (about 40 miles West-North West of Chattanooga if I remember my directions right). I rented a car in Nashville (I fly in from Seattle) and drove down there. It had been raining for several weeks evidently when I arrived and was finally drying out a bit. But it wasn't hot at all. So I was very fortunate it wasn't a steam bath. You take care of yourself...I get the swollen ankles too. Ken GreyEagle -- Re: coping in HEAT! I had 2 different breakfast casseroles, (one ham & veggie and one spicy with sausage), sawmill gravy, banana nut and blueberry muffins, homemade biscuits, cheese grits, sliced tomatoes, coffee and OJ. I had a little bit of the spicy casserole with a half a biscuit and about a half cup of grits and some coffee. And it was really good! My blood glucose 2 hours later was 98. That is long in coming for me because it has taken losing quite a bit and eating MUCH smaller amounts spread out during the day to get to this but it's worth it. I feel so much better. Tomorrow is my 50th birthday and I had 8 of my closest friends over this morning and it was so much fun. It was 4 couples and me and we ate and sat there at the table from 9:30 until 1:45 laughing and telling old stories and my cheeks are actually sore from laughing so much. Friends really are God's way of elbowing us in the side and saying " See how much I love you. " I felt very loved today by my friends and I was so grateful for them and for my friends on here that I have never met. Until the past few months I didn't know if I would even live to SEE 50 because I was almost 400 pounds and everything was going wrong with my body quickly. So I am full of gratitude today. Guest guest
Hi Eunice: That would be really nice....I sure would like to meet everyone. I'll keep my eyes open and plan to come. If I plan it right I can bring my wife too. I've tried to talk my wife into moving to the Cherokee Rez in North Carolina Its a beautiful area and I have relatives on the Rolls of both Eastern and Western Bands. She doesn't want to move. It would take her away from our one and only 1 year old grandson. I don't want to be that far away from him either. Thanks so much, Ken -- Re: coping in HEAT! Guest guest
Wow! That's hot! Right now its 3:30 pm here in Bellevue and my Weather Bug says its 102 degrees here on Mercer Island, Washington. For those who don't know this is between Bellevue and Seattle. Ken -- Re: coping in HEAT! It was 103 in Portland, OR yesterday... more of the same today. I'm shutting all the windows, turning on the fan, wearing as LITTLE as possible, and NOT going outside! YUCK! Carolyn

When I left work today it was around 96 outside. We have two air conditioners in the store. One quit about 5 days ago. It will take about 3 weeks to fix. It needs a new coil built from scratch, since it's so old that no one carries those coils any more. The working one is putting out about 54 degrees, that keeps the store at about 84. (Our normal temp is supposed to be 67 +/- 5. if it reaches 75 we are supposed to call for maintenance.) Heaven help us if the second one breaks down! Since the front of the store is all windows, the sun shining through would bake the insides. The first thing to go would be around $3-4000 of chocolate bars... HORRORS! =D I bought a ceiling fan a few years ago. A cheapy for around $80. Even on slow speed it keeps the air moving enough to feel cool. Although I have it set to medium right now. High is just too fast and doesn't really accomplish any more. Even a small fan for $5 is enough to keep the air moving. Try setting it to blow OUT the window, to blow the hot air out. I've got the windows open and the shades closed. That gives me a breeze without the sunlight. Lights and anything else hot off. I've turned of my hot water heater. That really heats the place up. If I need hot water I just turn it on an hour earlier. For cooking I can always microwave water. I also keep the bathroom sink full of cold water. That raises the humidity a bit but helps to cool me off.
