Neither of my kids fussed with their bands. They did sweat the first

We've painted and used stickers. The nice thing about stickers is

that they are easy to change and don't take up a lot of time. Each

time we painted we had to wait for it to dry.

I make sure the stickers aren't too big. If they are over 2 " X 2 "

they usually bubble and then come up way too easily. Some folks use

mod podge which is fine. I'm too inpatient to let it dry properly. I

try to minimize time out of the band. Since Kiersten has to do

stretches 5 times a day that doesn't leave much time at bath time for

drying So I put new stickers on about once a week.

Hi ,

He did great. I think I was more stressed than he was. He pulled at

it and investigated the band for about twenty minutes at the ortho.

She was wonderful at Cranial Tech. She adjusted him and gave him

time to play in the room to see how he was doing. He's walking now

so he is very excited whenever he goes someplace new and

investigates. We got him home and there were really no bad marks.

He played as usual with a happy grin on his face and broke my heart -

he looked so adorable, it looks like a wrestling helmet. We took it

on and off every few hours, bathed him, and he ended up sleeping all

night in it with no problems. He's taking his nap now so I think by

tomorrow he will be in it 23 hours per day.

There was one main problem maybe you can advise. His head is full of

sweat and the ortho said to keep him out of footie pajamas and

covers. No more snowsuits either. It's been mild out but I guess

I'm really worried about the warm weather coming. I had to mop down

his head and band every two hours yesterday because of the sweat.

Any special shampoo that will help? Is this normal? I keep worrying

that he is cold but I don't want him to overheat either.

I will decorate the band today with stickers but I am so incredibly

relieved that he is doing so great.

I have a 2 1/2 year old boy named . He was diagnosed with Asperger

two weeks ago. I feel my house is a revolving door with Ot,Special

Ed, Speech Therapist. Can anyone tell me at what age will you know

the degree of Asperger a child can have? Right now I feel it is very

mild. The head banging stopped thank god, he still lines things up,

doesnt look at you and has a hard time transitioning.

Any suggestions, when you have a spouse who feels it is not so bad to

be social interactive. He thinks that the services will stop and he

will be fine. Arguments are increasing and I do not know what going

to happen when turns three and the school needs to get involved.

Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated.

I think I would involve the dh in as much as possible so he can start to

grasp the seriousness of the situation. Also, I think it is natural to be

in denial for a while - to some extent. Sometimes it hurts to take it in

all at once. As you start dealing with the school and as he grows and

doesn't outgrow his AS, your dh will have to start coming to terms with it.

But have him go to therapies whenever possible and to doc appt's as well.

Welcome to the group! It's very common in the beginning of treatment

to need an adjustment or 3 before the " just right " fit is found.

Stinky head is common to! You can try using 99% rubbing alcohol and

scrubbing the band with a soft bristle tooth brush. It also helps to

fan dry it or let it dry in the sun. If you can't find 99% rubbing

alcohol at your local pharmacy you can order it here:

You can also buy really storng smelling baby shampoo like L'Oreal for

kids. Put it on at the beginning of his bath, leave it in and rinse it

right before he gets out of the tub.

It's very, very important that you have his band on him 23 hours a day

everyday. In order for your baby to receive the best results possible,

compliance is mandatory. :-)

Hi Jeanette and welcome to the group!

It is normal for the band to have an odor to it. I would suggest

using a soft bristle tooth brush to scrub out the band with alcohol.

MY ortho told me it was ok to spray a couple squirts of Febreze for

smell but DO NOT do it unless your ortho says it is ok. I think also

for the smell you could try using L'Oreal kids shampoo, many other

parents in the group use that and say that it works.

Hi Jeanette and welcome to the group!

It is normal for the band to have an odor to it. I would suggest

using a soft bristle tooth brush to scrub out the band with alcohol.

MY ortho told me it was ok to spray a couple squirts of Febreze for

smell but DO NOT do it unless your ortho says it is ok. I think also

for the smell you could try using L'Oreal kids shampoo, many other

parents in the group use that and say that it works.

Hi there. Welcome to the group. My son's head really smelled bad

like sweaty hockey equipment pretty much the whole way through the

treatment. It wasn't really apparent unless we took the band off.

It was only taken off for baths so it wasn't really an issue. We

just accepted the fact that he was going to smell like a hockey

player for the next little while. Our ortho said under no

curcumstances to use anything other than alcohol on the band because

it is the only thing that will evapourate with in the hour break

that is given. Any thing else will still be there when you put it

back on and could cause irritation to the skin. If there is a skin

irritation that could just end up in having to keep him out of the

band until the skin heals (but that's up to your ortho to decide).

I think typically the babies sweat excesively for the first few days

and then their bodies adjust and they don't sweat as much anymore.
