Aloha,

I will be 6 weeks post-op on Wednesday, 7/18/01. I kind of expected

my neck to be in better shape at this point than what it is. My

pre-op symptoms are a bit greater in intensity as well. In some areas

there is hardness just under the incision which by the way still feels

a little tender and swollen to the touch. I can only turn my head 50%

of the way to the left; it feels like a tight/hard muscle running the

length of my neck prevents further movement; 75% to the right and

furhter tightness. Also, the inside of my throat feels a little

swollen and as though there is a cotton ball lodged inside; it was

much worst the first three weeks after surgery but I expected it would

be back to normal by now. Also, I can't bend my neck forward very

much at all, can't bend to see my feet, it hurts too bad. I still get

tired very easily which I also expected but thought that at six weeks

many of these things would be less bothersome than they are. My

questions are: Am I expecting more at this point than I should? and

Is it normal for the symptoms to get worse before they get better?

Would like some insight from those who are at this point or who have

been there.

Evonne, the only thing I can tell you is from my experience, everyone is

different. I could not spit for months! I am suffering now with my neck

because I did not get into therapy soon afterwards. If anything get some

massage therapy with moist heat, anything to loosen up those muscles some.

my neck will never get better, so all I can do now is muscle relaxors and

massage and heat. just take it slow and dont over do. and listen to what

your body tells you, if it hurts stop. Find someone that knows what they are

doing too! in the wrong hands you could be hurt.

Just my opinion.
