STACIE,

I REALLY ONLY REMEMBER THE PROBLEM OF LARGE POOPS SINCE JAKE TRAINED, WHICH

WAS AT ABOUT 3 YRS. HE WOULD RESIST " GOING ON THE POTTY " EVEN PAST THAT

BECAUSE IT WOULD BE HARD AND A LITTLE PAINFUL. HE STILL WILL HAVE " SKID

MARKS " BECAUSE HE TRIES TO HOLD IT IN . (HE TELLS ME HE'S AFRAID IT WILL

HURT.) MY GIRLFRIEND'S NON-RSS 5 YR OLD GIRL STILL HAS PROBLEMS GOING,

THOUGH. SHE FEELS IT'S PSYCHOLOGICAL AND HAS NEVER SEEN A SPECIALIST EVEN

THE DOCTOR SUGGESTED IT. I'VE NEVER EVEN MEN-TIONED IT, I DON'T THINK, TO

JAKE'S PEDIATRICIAN BECAUSE HE DOES GO ALMOST EVERY DAY. I TELL JAKE HE

NEEDS TO DRINK MORE JUICE, BUT NOW I THINK I MIGHT TRY PRUNE JUICE OR KARO

SYRUP. I REMEMBER BUYING KARO WHEN HE WAS AN INFANT TO ADD TO HIS MILK TO

HELP GAIN WEIGHT (PER THE PEDIATRICIAN WHO ADDED THAT IT WILL HELP WITH

CONSTIPATION, TOO). I NEVER THOUGHT OF THIS PROBLEM BEING ASSOCIATED WITH

RSS UNTIL I READ THE SIMILAR STORIES ON THE EMAIL. BYE FOR NOW.

Hi Stacie- My son doesn't have " large poopies " either, but since about 3,

spends about 1/2 hour on the toilet doing his thing. He is now 6, and now it

takes about 45 minutes sometimes. I have a theory that RSS seems to have

something to do with the bowels as well as calorie absorption. But its just a

theory.

Hi Cammy. My name is Diane and I am due November 22. I have lost a total

of 15 pounds since I found out I was pregnant. I was worried too about this

and I have a friend in the doctor's office where I have my ultra sounds done

and she just pulled me in about two or two and a half weeks apart and

measured baby...guess what baby was bigger. Weeks later the doctor even

said baby's getting bigger. They know it's a big deal with me so they let

me know baby is growing so I don't worry. He also said our bodies work in

such a way that our baby comes first always. If anybody is lacking anything

it's us. It will show up later too such as in bones and teeth. One of my

friends (who never had the surgery but) lost some of her teeth after

pregnancy because she didn't get enough vitamins, she didn't take any

either. . . Here is my menu,

vitamins, prenatal, vitamin a & d water soluable, calcium, right before bed I

take iron

Breakfast, bowl of cereal with milk, (as little milk as possible)

snack: a piece of fruit, banana or about 10 grapes, maybe a half an apple

lunch sandwich, like turkey breast or ham and chips or fries

snack: fruit again

dinner 1/2 a pork chop, little bit of mashed potatoes, corn

snack; popcorn or cereal

It is real important to talk about this with your doctor so he can reassure

you that baby is fine.

I hope this helps

Diane

Cammi,

I went through two pregancies where I didn't gain any weight. With the first

one I weighed exactly the same the day I went in to have him as I weighed the

day I found out I was pregnant. I ate plenty and he was extremely healthy.

He weighed 8 lbs 1 oz and was 2 weeks early.

With the second one I actually weighed 13 pounds less on the day I went in to

have her than I did the day I found out I was pregnant. Same with her, I ate

plenty and she was very healthy. She was also 2 weeks early and didn't weigh

as much as my son, but she did weigh 7 lbs. 1/2 oz. So she was certainly a

good weight.

I would say as long as your doctors aren't concerned, you shouldn't be

either. I had not had weightloss surgery or anything, just wasn't putting on

any weight. Eat healthy, get some exercise and follow your docs orders. You

and the baby will be just fine!!

Congratulations!!

Cammi, I had the VBG in 6-19-97 and had lost 165 lbs but still needed to

lose 40 more lbs, my wt loss from the surgery had stalled and I had joined

Weight Watchers right after Xmas last yr to help me reach my goal. I had

started in on old eating habits and wasn't losing, I hadn't gained any back

but staying the same. Therefore, I am able to consume a larger portion of

food than you probably can. I eat about every 2 hrs. Yesterday i had a

bowl of cereal for breakfast, lunch was refried beans and salsa (1/2 c)

with tortilla chip (handful) and a tortilla, snack nectarine, dinner

chicken thigh maybe 2 oz, small ear of corn and one slice of cucumber.

snack mwave popcorn lite butter whole bag and a Pepsi. So I don't know if

this helps or not, in between I drink about a gallon of water per day and

may sneak in some juice and/or a popsicle.

I read your sample menu for a day, and I have a comment. Please go over your

daily intake with your doctor or a dietitian. You are not consuming enough

protein, even if you didn't have weight loss surgery. I am a nurse

practitioner who also has had WLS and often refer pregnant women to

dietitians to go over their diet. You may have to change your food choices,

i.e. eggs for breakfast instead of cereal, etc. I also would recommend

eating protein snacks like hard boiled eggs, or my favorite, beef jerky. All

foods are important, but protein and calcium are particularly important

during pregnancy. Hope this helps... Kim D.

Well, the most frequent recommended amount I see is 75 grams per day. I even

see some groups recommending 100 grams a day. Now these amounts are going to

be tough for a person with WLS to achieve, but remember the protein is

literally the " building block " of your baby. This is the major reason that

docs don't recommend pregnancy too soon after WLS, you simply are not taking

in enough nutrients and losing weight rapidly. Assuming that the sandwich has

two ozs. of turkey, I estimate the sample menu intake to be maybe 30-35

grams, or less than half of what is needed to " grow a baby " .

I am no dietitian, but some changes that could be made are: egg beaters for

breakfast (about 10 grams per 1/2 cup), skip the chips and eat more turkey on

the sandwich for lunch, and more protein at dinner. Protein snacks, like

hardboiled eggs, beef jerky (13 grams per ounce and it goes down real easy),

cottage cheese, or even Atkins Advantage bars (18 grams and only 2 carbs per

bar). Just some ideas, but pregnancy brings intense nutritional requirements

and are not to be taken lightly. I would still recommend a visit with a

dietitian to help out.

Dear Debbi,

Wow! That is not a comforting finding. I would definitely have him

checked out. I know there are other signs for early puberty, one being

body odor from the armpit area. It could just be an odd occurence with

an overactive hair follicle, but I would rather take the doctor's visit

than ignore it.

Please let us know how things go --we will be thinking of you and .

P.S. Have you looked through any of the newsletters or the MAGIC website

on precocious puberty for any hints on what else to look for?

I am pregnant with twins currently. I had my srugery December 16, 1998. I

am 14 weeks. At first I continued losing weight, I weighed 246 at surgery

I was down to 145 and have stayed there. the doctors are begging me to eat

more, I eat about every hour. I was a complete vegan until i found out I

was pregnant. this si a high risk pregnancy for me since I ahve an

incompetent cervix and a histroy of very early preterm labor. My son was

born at 23 weeks and a pound four years ago, he is now four. Normal women

gain approximately 20-30 pounds with one child and 40-50 with two. My

doctors know I will not be able to gain that much weight. But a good

twenty or so would be great. At delivery they think I will lose 30 lbs.

So I am very worried.

Marty takes Celebrex and, when he started taking it, didn't really know it

was helping him for a couple of weeks. I tried it and felt no change after

3-4 weeks so I changed to Naprelan. I tried some Vioxx he had and didn't

notice any change either. Our dr told us they are very similar.

I'm 21 weeks. I've been getting braxton hicks contractions since about week

15. They are very normal and nothing to worry about. Trust me...you'll

know the difference between braxton hicks and the real thing.

I will forewarn you of something -- around week 24 or so you will get pelvic

pains. I am told that will be your joints relaxing and it will continue

intermittently until delivery. Well it is not relaxing -- it hurts like hell

and tyelnol does nothing but your joints have to relax to get you ready for

delivery. The pain is normal -- if you spot or something though, that isn't

and you should call your doctor.

I am in my 29th week and experiencing this at times. i also have tender

boobs -- very tender -- which are enlarging and nipples the size of

quarters; my tummy itches and is dry; my back hurts and I have trouble

sleeping; i get leg cramps a couple times a week and the baby gets on my

sciatic nerve at times so I am currently on maternity leave. However I still

wouldn't trade it for the world. In July I will have my baby in my arms.

What more could I want???

,

That's probably BH contrax. Whenever your uterus contracts, your body

releases prostaglandins (I think that's right, someone correct me if I'm

wrong) which causes other things to contract as well, namely your bowels. I

believe that is the reverse of the theory behind the use of castor oil to

induce labor... if you cause the bowels to contract, you can also start your

uterus contracting.

When I would get BH contrax, my belly would just suddenly get as tight as a

basketball for a few seconds up to a minute sometimes, then it would just

relax. They never did really hurt. I never really got regular labor contrax

until I was given Pitocin, because my water broke before I was really even

dilated (don't ask me how THAT happened... I think the little stinker just

decided to put his finger through the wall or something... hehe). Now let me

tell you, sitting at the computer, IMing with a friend from California and

suddenly feeling a little <pop> ... then standing up and feeling a lovely

warm gush... very surreal. My IM friend (Vicki Haase from OSSG) was quite

excited when I IMd her back and told her I was in labor RIGHT NOW. : )

That's a new one on me. I braxton hicks contraction doesn't make you poop,

but maybe your bowels are causing the braxton hicks. That wouldn't surprise

me.

Shonda,

My friend is 33 weeks along and wants to take Evening Primrose Oil to help

ripen her cervix (this is her 1st pregnancy) and I told her that I thought

it would be okay to start taking it around 34 weeks along. What do you

think?

Jenna

Re: question

hello all-

Bh contrax are contractions that warm up the uterus for the real thing, your

body produces prostagladins also semen has it in there too ...prostagladins

make the cervix ripen for a softer cervix in which in turn when you have bh

contrax or a real contrax it is viable to dilate you....evening primrose oil

injested has prostogladins in it so the theroy can help the cervix more

pliable ...but bh contrax can dilate you but cannot put you into labor ....

a drop in protosterone in your blood levels puts you into labor..... hope

this helps

BTW for all of you that are going to be going into labor and for those that

have nothing else to do ... Im hosting a chat called Childbirth Preparation
