Geoff Crenshaw here. > Date: Thu, 6 Jan 2000 08:35:07 -0500 > From: " Ken and " <kglg@...> > Subject: Re: salt & Dr. Mercola > > While we're on the topic of sea salt, does anyone know if in fact it does > contain iodine? I have checked the label of the salt we get at the health > food store and it specifies " no iodine " . Is it just the Celtic or Real salt > that is supposed to contain iodine? > > Common table salt comes in two forms, Iodized (the most common in the US) and plain. Iodized table salt has iodine added to it. Iodine has been added to table salt for many decades (approx 80 yrs) as a basic health measure to ensure adequate iodine uptake by the general populace, rather like Vitamin D enriched milk. Another item added to common table salt for improved taste is (drum roll... ) refined sugar This is the most common reason people with health issues are advised to avoid table salt and use Sea Salt - the sugar. It is also the reason so many people actually become addicted to salt -- it is not the salt they are addicted to, but the sugar hidden within. Sea Salts are not necessarily a panacea, however. Many are prepared from polluted beds and shores, and care must be taken in the purchase of Sea Salt to avoid such ghastly contamination as: lead, mercury, arsenic, uranium, et al. So there is a full nickel's worth! Guest guest
I use Temovate and once in a while I have cortisone injected locally into the plaks. Hurts like crazy case I may have to have like five shots in one half-dollar size area. But it works. I'm hoping with the MTX, I won't have to do this anymore. --- popehandy@... wrote: > In a message dated 6/20/00 5:01:23 PM Pacific > Daylight Time, > egroups writes: > > << Has anyone heard of any other good treatments for > P only? Guest guest
I had " leg pains " as a child too and was also told they were " growing pains " !! They were mostly at night or when I was tired. I would be in pain sometimes to the point of tears and some times my Mom would try to rub my legs. At one point, I remember trying to limp to express how much pain I was in but it wasn't the type of pain that is directly associated with putting weight on the leg (although lyng down did help). Anyway, because I would switch what legs I was limping with, my mother and siblings accused me of faking the pain for attention!! It was like a big, radiating ache and the way I walked would not really affect it. I get so angry when I recall this!! I never faked a leg pain for attention and I feel so betrayed that they thought that I had! - Marti

Sheila Hi Sheila, I am no doctor, but I was in a doctors office with a lady who was pregnant, and had a low tolerance for a lot of foods. They struggled to get her on some eating plan, but she had a hard time even keeping down a glass of water. Turns out she ate enough quantity wise but not quality for her body type. Too much bread. Her body even rejected water. So she was advised to sip continuously. To get a liquid mineral supplement, and of course eat small portions of blood type correct foods. She actually had to 'build up' to a glass of water. She need liquid minerals first, then having installed some easy nourishment she will 'hold down' her water a glassfull at a time, not to mention more food. Hope this is somewhat helpful to you! Guest guest
Hey Janers, Hang in there with the procedures. You're in good company. I had my myotomy in March of 2001 and was only in the hospital for about 5 hours, but took about 3 days for the worst of the pain to subside. I could have used at least one overnight, but the insurance company considered it a " 23 hour " hospital stay. I was able to swallow as soon as I came out of recovery, which was truly a miracle. Things have been generally good for the past 15 months, though there are times when I experience mild spasms that last anywhere from 5 minutes to a couple of hours. There is also some reflux at times, but generally is controlled by sips of milk, water or eating a couple of crackers or a rice cake. My ongoing struggle is remembering that the peristalsis is not there, that I'm often taking bites that are too large, and that food still gets stuck at times. I still get that " deer in the headlights " look once in a while when things don't work, but have also found that if I raise my arms over my head the food heads down more easily (of course, I look like an idiot if I'm out at a restaurant, but after what we all go through with this disease, WHO CARES!!). Good luck, and make sure to find a surgeon that you feel really good about -- I was certainly fortunate to find a very wonderful doc here in Maine. Date: Thu, 20 Jun 2002 08:57:12 -0400 From: " Janers " <rojakort@...> Subject: going to Cleveland Well the tests results are in and again it is achalasia. Doc said he could dialate again, but that would be the third time since 2001 and second since april of this year. We decided another opinion was in order and that a surgeon will see me July 1st. I will find out if having another dilation will work or going for the myotomoy with partial flap. How long were some of you in the hospital for this procedure? I know everyone is different. Also what should I be asking the doc when I see him, I have a list LOL but want to ask it all... Thanks for listening to me.. hugs janers
Guest guest
Hi guys! Once again, I've bitten off more than I can chew. I started out the day relatively well. Able to do a little laundry & dishes. Went to the library & quickie grocery store stop. Honestly, that is pretty good for someone with all my " spinal stuff " going on. Problem is, dd had accident on couch where she fell asleep last night, and she " decorated " the living room floor with chips. Freezer AND fridge need cleaned. I think I really did expect myself to magically be able to do of this. Now I can't do anything else & am getting really bummed out. I still have my Christmas tree up! Maybe I'll just leave it up all year & decorate it differently for each holiday. I'll tell dd that I WANT her to take decorations off of it. It'll stay pretty for sure- lol. Does anybody else do this to themselves? It seems my life consists of me PUSHING myself to do just one more thing, until I just physically can't do anything. I hate to sound whiny, I'm just TIRED!!!! Half the time I'm late for church on Sun. mornings because I literally can't get out of the bed. The other day, I was walking across the church parking lot & like my lower body just " locked up " . It was so painful & embarrassing. I was afraid the men were gonna try to carry me. Oh well, such is life. At least I'm not in a wheelchair. (Except for long distances, big grocery store trips). Is anyone in here fused to the sacrum? If so, would you be willing to share with me what kind of movement you have left. How do you do things that require you to bend like shave your legs, tie your shoes, etc. I'm pretty sure that I'm gonna end up with that being my only option left. I've already exhausted all the pain management options according to my doctor. Thanks for letting me vent & whine. Blessings, Carla
Guest guest
Carla, I saw you post about pushing your self and had to respond. I am in the same boat when it comes to house work. I am not working, and live alone, the chores overwhelm me and a good portion of them remain undone. I go to physical therapy twice a week (which is way too painful) and have had the same whiny conversations with my therapist. I feel so defeated, and useless not being able to keep up with the simple things. I guess I just wanted to tell you that you aren't alone, I end up most days, overdone, crying, & on my heating pad. It gets so darn old. Please feel free to contact me, Its nice to have someone to understand. Take Care, stay warm. StellaBlue
Guest guest
Hi Carla, Have you tried the living aids like the grabber, canes, walkers, etc.? Having a brother who is mildly cerebral palsy but now lives in a wheelchair, I've come to realize that the aids make life easier where I can do a little more than I can without them. I've had other people, who know a little about my situation, compliment me on how well and how much I can handle. These aids, in my opinion, don't take away from your dignity, they add to it. I will admit that I am lucky in that I have a wonderful husband and two grown daughters who are quick to help me when I do tend to overdo things. I have also change my way of thinking in what is important in my life and a perfectly cleaned house is not one of those important things, just a tidy, clean enough to remain healthy house. I also have fibromyalgia, which has caused me to change my thinking since the two tend to wear me out. Llweyn Re: Digest Number 590 Hi guys! Once again, I've bitten off more than I can chew. Guest guest
Carla, So sorry to hear you're not doing well. I had T2-S1 revision surgery 2001. I AM restricted in movement, and sometimes get very frustrated, but I have regained my life so most times I'm glad I had the surgery. (Really had no choice) I can now shave my legs if I put my foot on a bench, but that hurts my upper back. I use an extension on the razor, actually something my Dad made, but they are available commercially I have since learned. I have either slip on shoes, or my Reeboks with elastic shoelaces that are always tied, and I just slip on. It's actually most bothersome buying the shoes. I use a gripper for laundry. I wish there was a way to have it with me at work, since picking papers off the floor is extremely difficult, but that's not practical. I just hang on to things more consciously now. If I'm in unfamiliar places with unfamiliar people, I feel conspicuous, but usually I'm with people who understand my predicament. I did notice this Christmas that my tree was decorated mostly from my shoulders to my knees, but hey, it was up and lit so that was good! I don't " sweat the small stuff " , except when I'm in a mood to feel sorry for myself. I know I can do much more now than before surgery when the pain so limited me that I pondered the quality vs quantity of life issue. I'm no where near as crabby with the family, don't get exhausted from the pain mid-morning, can work again, get to hire someone to do my fall leaves, don't have to clean the cat box on the floor anymore, don't have to be humiliated by my teenagers at billiards! Life is good! Hang in there. Guest guest
I just saw www.bpkids.org last night. It's for families of kids who've been diagnosed as bi-polar. Check out the message boards for something that will truly scare you. There are kids as young as 2 and 3, who've been multiple dx'd and are on multiple medications, some to deal with the problems of the first. Somewhere in the last 2 days, the director of the board makes some asinine comment like, " Just because 2 things happen at the same time, that doesn't mean that they have anything to do with eachother " , referring to side effects and drugs.
