Hi,

We use Diastat, it comes in a box with two vials(sp.) already pre-filled with

the gel.

All you do is take off the plastic cap and push the button. It is rectal and

supposedly works within 5 minutes. It is perscription and very, very expensive

but our insurance covers it and I think most do. It has been very effective in

stopping Kim's seizures when she is in a cluster. It comes in all different

mgs., we use 10mgs.

Need a Quick Answer

Hi, I need a quick answer if any one is out there.

When your child has clusters of seizures, what do you use to stop

them? We used Klonopin years ago, but I read her of Diastat. What

other choices are there? Are some better than others? Are they

injections? Can you go to an urgent care clinic and get an

injection?

Thanks,

I think you've already gotten the response but I'll tell you what we do...

When Karley has clusters we use the Diastat rectal syringe which works

immediately to stop the seizures and makes her very sleepy for a while. We keep

2 on hand at all times. I've only had to use it once. I would suggest this

before you go to the ER. I even got ahold of my neuro in the middle of the

night once when I didnt' have one on hand and he phoned one in to a 24 hour

pharmacy. WE didn't end up needing it that night as her seizures finally

stopped.

Good Luck. Hope the crisis has passed. Scary to go thru.

we used ativan and valium

also some other things we have tried...liquid herbs...the one that

worked best for was a combination of volarian and passion

flower. The problem is when Bry was really bad the effects dont

last as long as drugs. He also recommended Camomile and I think

it was skull cap (but dont quote me on that) My naturopath told us

that he had a woman whos DH would squirt different herbs in her

mouth and was successful at stopping clusters.
