Guest guest
Carol, Please tell me more. Were you happy with it? Have you tried Photoderm and if so how did it compare? Did it reduce the overall redness or only remove visible blood vessels? I REALLY want to get rid of my pink complexion. Sorry for so many questions. Also I did not mean to send my message out 3 times. Just having some technical trouble. Thanks, Margaret H. ------------------------------------------------------------------------

I also had 1 laser treatment ($750) which I thought my insurance would pay and then they denied claim. After many letters and calls, the insurance DID pay for the one laser treatment. the photderm is not as expensive (about $125 per treatment) but did not work. I have REALLY red and burning cheeks. Nothing seems to work! Know this isn't much help for your situation, but wanted to let you know how my photoderm treatments went. Guest guest
Hi Darlene, Your face may not get that red. Everyone is different. I would think that the Michigan area would have more choices in specialists. You may have to do a little more searching --- remenber that this is still relatively new. You might want to expand your search to places that are up to 2 to 3 hours away. I know that this is not convenient, but it would be well worth it if it gives you twice as many options. It is so important to find an experienced physician who does the photoderm himself/herself. I do not question the degree of training that a nurse or technician may have........but to treat the rosacea face you should have the most qualified, experienced physician. Do not settle for a place just because it is in close proximity. It really can make all the difference in the world. The key to the outcome of the photoderm treatment is based on its versatility -- each individual is so unique (from skin tone to vascular damage to skin reactivity). They can change the energy of the treatment, the pulse, the pulse duration, the wavelength, the size of the treatment crystal etc...... It does you no good to have someone just put the crystal on your face and zap away. If you have any questions, then please email Dr. Bitter to see if he can suggest anything. I have called the ones in my area (Michigan) and only two plastic surgeons have the photoderm equip. One doctor does the treatments (not all - he has tech's that do them to) and the other has his nurse do them only. I am aware you have recommended that we have doc's do this only - however neither one of these offices seemed to understand when I told them about the many treatments and induced flushing that is necessary to get good results. > > I don't like the idea of having a flaming red face for 4 days without being able to cover it up. > > These offices said I could put make-up on the next day - are they not telling me the truth? > > Needing more information as always, > > Darlene > ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guest guest
Thanks for the ongoing reports Ian. Which insurance company is it that actually knows something about rosacea?! Kerry PHOTODERM Day three of Photoderm treatment: The pinkness is going down, all blistering, which was minimal is gone, I still have a rectangular spot which is bruised that has not diminished (The first zap he had set the machine to high). I was hoping my flushing problem would diminish, but it has not, but then again Its only been three days after only one treatment. My insurance did cover the procedure. It was listed as a treatment option for rosacea. I did take the valium and demerol for pain prior to treatment but felt that in the small dose he gave me it didn't make me feel drugged. It did sting worse than I thought it would, and made me jump, but well worth it. I hope the people that have had this done are not scaring people away from the procedure by telling you all that it stings. All I am saying is that it does sting, it does make you jump, but well worth it. Ian ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- eGroups eLerts! Guest guest
The insurance company that I have is Aetna. I did have to get a referal from my primary physician. The doctor called my insurance company for pre approval and they said that it would be covered, that it was on their list of covered treatment options for cea. I primarily just suffer from redness and flushing. Right now I am taking clonidine and am hoping that when this is all done I can stop taking all medications.
