Guest guest
No, its not just you - I have Pants Encounters too. I WAS 5' 4 1/2 " , but with aging have found that I have shrank (settled to?!? lol) 5' 3 3/4 " . And if that isn't unhappy making enough, I am SHORT legged for my height as well as more 'ample' in the rear and some tummy area too. I've been content to wear cheap (like $5!?!) slip on type pants which are more comfortable than my usual jeans. But the elastic waist pants are really too generous in the front and not enough in the rear. Soooooooo I dug out a booklet I had buried in my sewing pattern area and with the aide of the plastic curve finder tool (for crotch seam shape) I am going to make ME a pattern to fit this body of mine. And one of the bonuses is that there will be NO SIZE on these pants, they will just fit ME. I've always sewn most of my clothes, except when I could find them cheaper than I could bother for. Yet I am looking forward to the choice of fabric and color more to my liking as well. Now if only I could find another person who sews so that we could make patterns by assisting each other, then I wouldn't even know the 'measurements' and not start the " I'm THAT big?!? " thinking that may happen as I do this ;-) Luckily IE has sunk into me enough that I'm not really sweating that either. Guest guest
Hear Hear! I agree totally with what you say. I was just happy that a couple of years ago I noticed that Lane and Avenue did carry petites for plus sizes. Being 5'4" there regular size pants were way too long. I like Lane new type of pants with the color coding. The blue color ones finally fit my body the way I need. Unfortunately not all of the pants come in that coding. I agree with what you said. Life is too short to settle for ugly clothes just because we are a plus size or heavier than we would like to be. Thankfully there are some nice clothes out these days. I never needed petite clothing in regularsizes, but petite plus sizes are 2-3 inches longer than regularpetites! Butwhen it comes to myself, I've been very guilty of buying clothing toshrink into. The probable height of my stupidity was switching from20 Petite to 20 to 20 Tall in order to avoid size 22 pants. I now know that I probablyneeded 24P at that time!Anyway, today I actually tried on every pair of pants and kept going, checking fit and appearance, until I had as many pairs as I couldafford. That's something I haven't done, ever. Even at my lowestweight I could barely stand to try on pants in a dressing room becauseI hated the way my body looked. It isn't the clothing's fault that Ihave/had trouble accepting my size! Both things aresilly and hurtful nonsense, and I'm proud that today was my first stepaway from that.Life is just too short to live and dress like that, no matter whatsize you wear! Guest guest
I feel like I'm stuck betseen womans and misses sizes. The XL barely fit but the M from Romaans or Woman Within are too big. And they rarely offer a small in their sizes. I do sew but it would be nice not to have to sew. -- In IntuitiveEating_Support , " lilangelli " wrote: > > First, is it just me or are fat women not really allowed to wear > shorts? Guest guest
Can't remember where I read it, but an article about body acceptance reminded readers that in the not-too-distant past, people had their outfits made to FIT THEM - now we are faced with the opposite, that we have to search the racks to fit OURSELVES into those " sizes " - arbitrary, once-size-fits-none sort of things. And, having lost a little weight, I see that some of the things I bought were never really fitting well anyway - it was a flaw in the garment and not me. And how much time did I spend berating myself and hating my body?? - WAY TOO MUCH! :-) > > First, is it just me or are fat women not really allowed to wear > shorts? Guest guest
Lilangelli- I have a problem with pants myself. I am 5'6 " and have long legs and a short torso not to mention that I have minimal waist and what I do have is right up under my ribcage.(and NO hips) In order to get pants that fit my waist they are huge in the crotch, bupkiss and hips. I did try a pattern awhile back for making pants that was a 'true- fit' pattern. It had the guides and all to make them to fit YOU. They came out okay, but I do not like making pants. For me the answer has come in the mid-rise jeans and pants. They sit more towards my hips and I no longer have to deal with the 'muffin-top' of mommy pants. BTW- I am 43. > > First, is it just me or are fat women not really allowed to wear > shorts? Guest guest
In my teen and early 20's I used to buy men's jeans because they fit me better than women's! (I always had a bigger waist) You may want to give this a try too, even if its for knock-around the house pants (gardening?). And it wouldn't surprise me that men's jeans are cheaper than women's ;-) Katcha > > Lilangelli- I have a problem with pants myself. Guest guest
Cammy, I have the same body shape as you-long legs, no butt and a shorter torso. it's better now that there are so many choices in cut and length for jeans-BUT I still have a hellish time finding a good swimsuit that feels right. <sigh> and it's summer now..... teresa > > > > First, is it just me or are fat women not really allowed to wear > > shorts? Guest guest
I wonder whether going to a tailor would be a worhtwhile option? They can create clothing that can later be modified p or down when your weight changes. I fluctuate A LOT in my weight - have gone up or down in size very very quickly. It seems like this would be expensive, however, the clothing would be well made and somewhat adjustable in size. I have never done this, does anyone have experience with tailored clothing? In the meantime, I really like skorts - not the ones that are skirt in front and pants in back, but the ones that are skirts with a built in short underneath so that your legs dont rub together. They look cute and are comfy too. Has anyone else tried these? > > Can't remember where I read it, but an article about body acceptance > reminded readers that in the not-too-distant past, people had their > outfits made to FIT THEM - now we are faced with the opposite, that > we have to search the racks to fit OURSELVES into those " sizes " - > arbitrary, once-size-fits-none sort of things. > > And, having lost a little weight, I see that some of the things I > bought were never really fitting well anyway - it was a flaw in the > garment and not me. Guest guest
Speaking of bigger pants...I dug out all my capris and shorts yesterday and guess what...most of them are too small. I have one pair of capris I just bought a couple weeks ago but I guess I'm gonna have to go shopping. I was surprised because I am still wearing jeans I wore last fall when I stopped wearing these capris. I gained weight in the fall but I've been losing this spring and my jeans have been getting looser. I thought the capris would fit. I can get them on and fastened but they are way too tight to wear!
