Hi DD -

I, too was a bit skeptical but the day before I read that post about watermelon,

I had eaten more than 1/4 of a watermelon in one day! I've always loved ice cold

watermelon and living here in SC where it's just not hot, but humid too - I

" pigged " out! I had it for lunch and some more for dinner. The next day, I was

in so much pain - that was the day I read the post. I really don't think it was

the power of suggestion as I was already in pain when I read it all. I am

definitely leaning towards believing it. What I do believe is that there is a

strong possiblity that if nothing else, it aggrevates RA.  I wonder what

thinks?????

Subject: [ ] Watermelon Flare?

Date: Saturday, August 1, 2009, 2:43 PM

My left knee started hurting a little bit on Thursday. When I got home from

work Friday, my husband had bought some watermelon and brought some to me.

It was really good and I was thinking " should I be doing this? " I don't

think I've eaten watermelon since I've been diagnosed with RA.

Well, today, my knee is so swollen, it reminds of what it was like before I

started treatment. Was it the watermelon, or power of suggestion? Don't

know, but think I'll avoid it.

It's figures that watermelon is 'listed' for causing flares, when it's one of

the low acid foods that someone with ulcers is allowed to eat. Such a bummer!!

Tomato sauce gives me major flares. I didn't put the two together until I

started keeping a food diary for WW. Anytime I've had marinara sauce or salsa

(lots of it) I hurt like crazy. One slice of tomato on a sandwhich does NOT

seem to trigger a flare, thank goodness!

Stay pain free!

I'm not sure, . I hadn't considered watermelon as flare-inducing

and haven't read anything related to that.
