Guest guest
Yesterday was a very busy day. We had company almost all day. Good thing it was yesterday because today is a train wreck. A storm is rolling through and he had a terrible night. We have noticed that when the barometer drops he has a terrible time. He coughed all night long. I'm wiped out today and was going to take a nap but I think I need support instead. Since I've gone on leave for the rest of the school year and I'm retiring in May, they want to do a retirement thingy for me. Man, I can't think about tomorrow let alone May. Last night I left him alone to go to prayer meeting. I didn't really enjoy myself because I could only think about him but I figured that the Good Lord was going to take care of him since I was in prayer (some for him). These are the days I can't hardly keep my head up. On good days like yesterday I think, "we are going to make this". The doc gave me some good drugs but haven't been on them long enough to make a difference yet. I'll make my way through all the messages on here. I'll answer a few of them. One question I have is, is there anyone on here who has been involved in hospice? He has made me promise that I won't let them put him on life support. (broke my heart) but I have some questions. I'm not saying he is at the end yet, but God is in control and I feel like I need to be prepared for the worst. I have not a clue how to handle this (sob-sob) so I'll continue to get through some of the messages. Guest guest
, First here's a hug! Now take a deep breath. Next put your teachers hat on! Good. Ooops, you're not smiling. OK! These questions are so very important. My Dr gave me paper work for a living will. This is to make sure the wishes of the sick person are known to all. For me, it relieved the pressure from my children. I have told them what I want, so they only have to follow that directive and never feel guilty! You are in no shape to make these decisions and I am not sure time will change that. I don't know you yet, some people get stronger as time goes by. My kids are pretty cool. Talking about death has always been a part of life for us, so although they may miss me, they realize that those tears come from our human side. Our spiritual side rejoices in the fact that we might be having a much better time then they are. Death is inevitable for all of us and we could very well out live our caregivers!!!!! Remember, if you want to talk, my number is posted and I don't pay extra for long distance, so if you do, I'll call you back. Love ya, Ter Kennelly wrote: Yesterday was a very busy day. Guest guest
Thanks! The oops, you're not smiling really did make me smile. We already have living wills but I've been told that if you call 911 they have to inti-bate. If something happens in the middle of the night - I'll be frantic and I know I'll want help. To do what? Guest guest
K. .... I've been reading all your posts I think but can't seem to remember what the Dr. says about Don's cough. As Joyce wrote you, there are home remedies that work too. I took NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine)...many of us here do. It's a supplement purchased through www.puritanspride.com Very reasonable, and many purchase from there, including me. Read about it online, ask your Dr....although some Drs think it doesn't help some think it does. It's a personal choice. All I can say is, it helped me w/ cough and mucus...Take w/food though or it can give a bit of an upset stomach. About Hospice: This too is a very personal choice. And what I say is obviously only MY opinion. All Hospice's are not the same. Go check one out in your area. Ask lots of questions. I love Hospice! I worked for Hospice many years ago. They help family members as well and as long as you are clear about what you want / don't want I've never seen a problem. They are usually loving and caring people. NOW. Having said that.....our L. had a horrid, unbelievable experience with Hospice in her area. I've never before heard of what happened to her and I'm sure she will respond to you personally. She truly suffered and nearly died. Can Hospice be blamed for everything? I don't know.... Start checking everything out . Research. Be Don's advocate about everything. There are many things to prepare for; his wishes about his personal things, a Medical Directive, (I know this is hard to read) burial preferences, a Will, all final arrangements can be done by Don through you. So many of us on the board here have already taken care of these things by ourselves and it does bring relief when it's done . Also, you will need Don's medical wishes in writing. A Living Will or a Medical Directive is more specific. Give to each Dr. / hospital that needs one. I don't mean to sound cold here but there is importance in meeting these necessary things together. Maybe the caregivers board can give you help I'm not aware of. We who have the disease and those who love us and must watch us with this disease, face it differently . I can feel your fear and sorrow and I'm so sorry you must go through this with Don. God Bless. Mama-Sher, age 69. IPF 3-06, OR. Don't fret about tomorrow, God is already there! Guest guest
, When i was a medic, we were told to honor the patients choice. You had to have it with you and it has to be notarized, for proof legally. Just in case someone wanted to get rid of a spouse! Sounds funny, but it happens. Please call you local Medics and ask about their policy. Remember I was in Jersey then. At least you will not have to guess and will be prepared. When you know what to except, it does help. Always get the really important information from the pros locally. It is different in every state. I had a rough day, sorry this is so late love ya, Terry Kennelly wrote: Thanks!
