eating behavior on meds

Hi everyone! I have recently wrote about Depakene & Lamictal. My son has been taking Depakene since the beginning of August (2001) and soon after he started not wanting to eat and it gradually got worst. I informed his doctor and he said as long as he was drinking he was just being picky. He has had no problems drinking. The pharmacist said that Depakene can cause loss of appetite, but my son's doctor disagrees. Cameron has now started Lamictal and in 2 weeks he will start weaning off the Depakene. Has anyone experienced this eating behavior and has it ever gotten better after switching meds? And to all of you who have children on Lamictal, have you experienced any type of eating problems? I am hoping that once he is off the Depakene he will go back to eating normal again.

Thanks,

Beth

Depakene absolutely causes decreased appetite, as well as;

nausea, vomiting, sedation, depression, double vision, loss of muscle

control, etc. Sounds bad, right? Lamictal is not recommended for

children under 16 years. Possible side effects are worse. Combining

both in the bloodstream doubles lamictal concentrations. Check this

out w/ your pharmacist PLEASE.

Best Wishes,

Jeff
