Guest guest
o.k. thanks for the input, i dont know why the essay didnt come through, so i will type it ....................THE BIGGEST SECRET EVER.... A true story of a boy and his dream to play in the N.H.L. The dream began on October 1st. 1989 , his first birthaday, that day he got his first pair of skates, shiny twin bladed with red straps. His first time on the ice was that very day, he didn't glide but shuffled , that was o.k. he was skating... The boy spent many hours skating over the next year, sure he fell a lot but always got up again. Off ice he was seen with a mini hockey stick playing mini games with his brother or sister. The next year he got his first real pair of hockey skates, a second hand pair of Bauer Huggers, the smallest size possible, with neon green laces that were almost as tall as the boy......Before his third birthday he played on his first hockey team, the Cookie Monsters. At practice he listened to every word the coaches spoke, knowing that to play in the N.H.L. he had to be the best he could be. Over the next few months he scored many goals, and imagined scoring the winning goal for the Stanley Cup. Then halfway through kindergarten things began to change, he got pains in his legs that got worse, he was taken to Childrens hospital. He stayed in hospital for a week, tied into his bed with his legs in traction, this is how he slept for the next two years. During the day he would wear special braces on his legs, the boy was scared that he wouldnt't play hockey again...... Six months later still in leg braces, he made it back to hockey, he couldn't skate like the wind , or even stop, but he was back on the team and the N.H.L. was his dream. After almost two years the braces came off, but the leg braces had made his muscles weaker, on the ice without the braces he felt like Bambi, but this would be the start of his eback on the road to the N.H.L.. The next few months his legs stronger and stronger. Suddenly he noticed his arms getting weaker, then the boy noticed that his legs got very tired, the boy got frustrated and stopped playing hockey, what was happening to his N.H.L. dream ? The boy went back to the hospital. the doctors said he had a muscle disease and sent him to Sacremento for a muscle biopsy, the boy didn't like that. The boy returned to hockey the next winter at the house level, his friends were now playing rep. but at least he was playing, he still had his dream and every time he went on the ice he made every shift count. The next year the boy didn't play hockey, he started to referee, he made $10 an hour and enjoyed watching the little kids improve. Then on November 6th 2001 the boys Doctor told him that his hip bone looked as though a dog had chewed it and hoped that the reason the boy was having leg problems was a bone problem, because they might be able to fix that, but if its not a bone problem the boy was told it was a muscle problem and that was bad.... The boy was once again worried about his N.H.L. dream not coming true. But the BIGGEST SECRET EVER is the boy is ME and i never ever ever give up. So if in ten years time, you see a rookie in the N.H.L. with the number 88 on his back, look for the name.......WEBBE...... Because the boys dream will have come true...... by Webbe. So that is daniels essay, it wasnt good enough according to the school judges to be entered in the school competition, but to me as his mom its a winner , giving just a glimpse of what goes on in his heart and mind. jillian daniels mom From: Jillian Webbe To: Mito Sent: Friday, December 14, 2001 9:54 PM Subject: biggest secret ever hi all, i hope its o.k .( i think ) i have emailed an essay to the group, my son daniel had to write an essay for school entitled the biggest secret ever, and hes not the type of kid who lets anyone know about his disease as a rule, it doesnt go into too many details , but i thought may be of some interest as it gives a glimpse inside the head of one mito kid. jillian, daniels momPlease contact mito-owner with any problems or questions.
