Guest guest
Thank the Lord I am still able to get around on my feet, even if it is with a cane half the time! Anyone know where to find what, and IF there are any, the disability/accessability regulations are?? I am often confronted with the problem of paper towels away from the sinks, and often just forego hand washing (ick) rather than using my cane with wet hands. I have also beeb very frustrated with the handicapped spaces - yes they're wheel chair accessabe, but often a ways from the door as that was where they could get the curb altered easily. My issue is balance and fatigue, so walking an extra 20 feet because that's where the handicapped spots are and no others are open near the door just robs me of what energy I need for what ever I need to do in a building. maybe we all need to be contacting or state reps.... ~ > > > Yes, I've been locked in lavatories too! Often doorhandles/locks are difficult to open with MS. And how many times have I washed my hands, only to find that the paper towel is on the other side of the room so you have to wheel your chair with wet hands. While I'm having a moan about public bathrooms, the mirrors are always too high up, the soap dispensers and taps too hard to work, they often have infrared light sensors that will only come on if you can stand up and wave your arms around, and most times you can't flush the loo from a wheelchair without practically disappearing down the bowl! > My husband now knows to come in search of me if I've disappeared for more than 10 minutes as I'm probably having a problem with the door/my knickers > Janet > > > > To: mscured@...: brosta@...: Fri, 9 Jan 2009 21:08:53 +0000Subject: Study > > > > Janet, you were lucky, I went to a Wal Mart's washroom on my mobility scooter. Did what I had to do, got back on my scooter and headed for the door. I could not open it my scooter was in the way. Tried this way and that way all without success. An hour later my partner had missed me. After he had searched the store, he sent a shop worker to search the washrooms where she found me still struggling.Any advice anyone when you've gone to a restaurant with a disabled bathroom and, whilst you can get in there with a wheelchair, you find it has no grab rail and the wc is not near enough to the wall to be able to lean on.Janet[Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > > > > > > _________________________________________________________________ > Show them the way!
