A BIG napkin and telephone

Boone was so cute today, but I realized something I didn't know before.

He got out of the hot tub and I didn't have any towels by the door as I usually

do. He looked at me and said " BIG napkin? " It was cute, but I had no idea he

didn't know the word for towel.

Boone is usually the first one to answer the telephone these days. Actually, he

rushes to answer the phone. He says " hello " and begins to chatter away in his

own " language. " When I pick up the extension, most people are talking to him.

All I have to say is, " say goodbye Boone, " and he hangs up the phone, so it's

not a big problem -- yet. I wonder if I should discourage it or teach him to

take messages? j/k -- but I do wonder if I should discourage it or try to teach

him to find out who the person wants to talk to.

Well, finding out who they want to talk to would be a good thing to

teach...but I've found that answering the phone is the best way to get

rid of telemarketers. :-) Anyone who knows us just stays on the line until

I rescue them!

Boone says this to EVERY person in a wheelchair, male or female: " Hi boys! "

?????

My imagination tells me he has at some point regularly passed by someone in

a wheelchair who says, " hi boys " to him and whoever. I think this because

when you say hello to Boone, he always says, " Hi Boo. " (We call him Boo.)

I guess for the phone thing I can try a social story, then get his sister to

call from her room to practice. Anybody out there have any better ideas?

Sissi,

The towel story is funny. I didn't realize until the preschool teacher told

me that didn't know the difference between male and female. Sure

enough, on a visit to the hospital, he said 'Hi Lady' to EVERYONE walking

by!

As to the telephone, I say go forward! Don't discourage him, teach him

more. You're lucky he has an interest in the phone at all. At 12, I'm not

sure has ever answered it! He will now at least answer questions on

it from grandma and his aunts and will answer on it now too for a

couple minutes tops.
