Carol -- your description regarding your reaction to metrocream (i.e.,

irritation, bumps increasing, burning sensation) sounds exactly what

happened to me. By the way, I tried Noritate also and had the same

reaction as metrocream. I will keep you advised if you find a topical that

works. Best regards,

i have used it off and on for years..and it has never done

anything...every time i go to a new derm...they order me a new tube...

as much as i whined about the sulfacet when i got it...i am seeing a good

result....but this is only on the bumps and red pimples that i got from

the minocycline....it is VERY drying and the under the skin bumps on my

jaw line are really hardly noticeable...and it is drying up the

cysts....and leaving lots of red marks....

of course..i have to be careful outside that a cactus doesn't jump on my

face because it thinks i am a piece of desert...

Hey Lance,

When I first went to a derm for occaisonal outbreaks he gave

me both Metrogel and Emgel. I found the Emgel to be much faster acting in

clearing things up (it has a high alcohol content in it). The Metrogel

seemed too slow acting.

Since Ive graduated from occaisional outbreaks to a full blown

disaster, I find that the Metrogel doesnt do much of anything but really dry

my face out. I even have the Metrocream ,which isnt as drying , but still

doesnt do much. Ive seen it cut down the redness at times, but not always.

Like you said its promoted as the best topical to combat rosacea, so sometimes

when other things dont seem to be working and you get worried that this

terriffic skin condition might get worse, you reach for that damn tube again

hoping that it might work better this time!

Ive had my daughters try it when they have their occasional

pimples and they tell me it makes them worse. So who knows. I get the feeling

that our best bet is to try out these more alternative cremes, vitamins ,and

eating more nutritionally, but I'll still try any pill, topical, or cosmetic

surgery to try to get rid of this!!!

Lance-

I used to think that the metrogel/metrocream/noritate didn't work too

well. However, when my pharmacy (CVS) forgot to order it and I went

without for a week, (while taking oral antibiotics) my face got much

worse. I imagine if you could noticably see a drastic difference after

using it you would probably get a bad rebound effect (like cortisone,

menthol products, etc.). Mine also seems to lose effectiveness after

using it a while - after switching to Sulfacet or Klaron for a few weeks

and then going back to the metrostuff it works much better.

,

Yes, I'll be going back on Dr Sy's program to reduce irritation

now--and also the discs which are drying but definitely not as irritating

as Metrocream/Klaron. For the past few days...no makeup, just " washing "

with aloe vera gel which my skin seems to " like " when it gets like this.

The more Metrocream I used to " clear up " the more fiery, angry looking my

skin was becoming! I'm looking quite pale today, so most of this is gone,

and I'll get back to the discs and " Sy's gentle cleansing

program " ...thanks for letting me know you seemed to be getting a similar

reaction to mine. I still promise that next month I'll be reporting on

any new marvelous information that I get from the rosacea doc I'll be

seeing.
