Thanks for your e-mail. I spoke with my ENT doc. who is going to do the tonsillectomy and she said it should be fine ... so did the anesthesiologist for the tonsillectomy. I haven't told anyone on the bypass side about it yet. I guess it'd be a good idea to do it sooner than later so I can make arrangements, but my mother is going to be out of town for most of Aug. and Sept. and I don't wanna wait until October to do this ... my sleep apnea is killing me (literally) and the cpap hasn't worked for me yet. Ahhhh, I hate being so helpless. And on top of this all, I spent the weekend in Los Angeles and got strep throat ... I sound like a dying giraffe. I just hope I come out of all of this alive and healthy ... this is a lot of someone my age to digest. And I thought dinking my new car was stressful. Yeah right!

-Thanks again,

Elle

Hi Elle,

It sure sounds like you are doing some major stressing. I think you need to slow down a bit. With all that is going on you shouldn't wait until the last minute to talk to your Mom if she is on your support team. You should make arrangement for someone to be there for you when you get home. I know that everyone is different and there are those that after the surgery they can move around as though nothing has happened. For myself it wasn't that way and I did need someone to give me a hand when it came time to get up from a chair at times. for those days that just seem to be overwhelming do deep breathing. It is amazing how it will make life just a little more relaxing.

Oh, my Mom will be there. But, that's why I don't want to change my surgery date... because, if I do ... there's a chance she won't be able to make it. I'm not stessing too badly ... I just want these darn tonsils out ... then I can decide what I need to do for my stomach.

You are so sweet. I am truly blessed to have 'met' people like you here on this group. Not only for the wealth of information I'm receiving but for the love and support, as well. My surgery date for the tonsillectomy is the 18th of this month and my bypass in on the 31st. I will keep you updated if those change, but as of now it's looking good.

I'm sorry to hear about not being able to use the cpap machine! Maybe it's better that I haven't gotten used to it. I don't wanna wake up in the middle of the night after surgery and feel like I can't breathe. Scary thought. I'm glad that you're ok, though and that the tests came back well. Let us just keep on moving in that direction!

Congrat's on the weight loss ... and may it continue in gaggles! :)

Dear Elle,

I am so glad you ran it all by your doctors. They know their business and if they say OK, I'd do it. I often think about the people who have surgery because of accidents or illness and do fine. You will too.

Since I wrote you, I had my surgery. All went well. My only problem is the sleep apnea. My MD will not let me use the CPAP machine after the surgery until all is healed. As a result I woke up one day gasping for air and must have "pulled" something under my left rib. I could not get a deep breath and had to sleep sitting up. Since it was a week after surgery, the surgeon had me go to ER where he did blood tests and a CAT scan. He said all is well and took out my drain. I hope I will not need the CPAP after I lose more, but until then I realy want it. My side is slowly feeling better.

Let me know how all goes. I have lost 20 lbs already (surgery 6/24) but I think it is because I had the intestinal flu the week leading up to my surgery. It feels great!!! When is your surgery dates. I will put them on my calender and pray for you TWICE!

Hugs,
