Poodles are said to be very easy on people with allergies. They do shed,

but the hair tends to stay in their coat until they're groomed instead of

winding up all over the house.

As a former ferret owner (my sis has since kidnapped them into one big ol' fur

pile!), if you are really interested in having a pet you can play with, without

having to worry about the allergy factor-ferrets are great!

I would get 2 so they can entertain themselves if you aren't home, but they

sleep 15 hours a day and then love to bounce around the house. They are a lot

like kittens. We adore them but they do need a large cage when you aren't home

and a place they can't get out of when you let them " out " to play. If your

grandson is under 10, I wouldn't get them though as kids tend to be too rough

with them.

Otherwise, there's always an aquarium! ;)

Hey! Aren't there also hairless dogs and cats? I know our neighbor got a

standard poodle because they don't have fur-rather they actually have hair or

don't shed or something and their kids were all allergic!

Had to add my two cents. I have three Yorkshire Terriers and love them. They

are lap type dogs and very lovable. They are very, very loyal and great

pets. THey do not shed or have dander and are easy to take care of and have

in the house. I recommend getting one at a time as it is easier to train them

that way. You can easily have only one but once you get one it seems that you

are a sucker for them and can't help yourself.

Hee-Hee !!

I saw that and was wondering if anyone would pick up on it!! It's this thing

called a " typo " !! Hee-Hee! I wrote it late in the evening...it was supposed

to say... " not fur " as in the Bichon Frise has hair and not fur...You made me

chuckle though...thanks

As an allergy sufferer myself, I felt I had to jump in on this one! I have

had eczema my entire life, I have also had pets in the home my entire life.

Allergy testing at a young age revealed I was allergic to cats and dogs, more

so to dogs (as well as everything else on this earth that grows). And we had

a dog in our home at the time. My mother said I went hysterical when the dr

told her to get rid of it. The funny thing is, I always had more problems

with cats. Whenever I was around one, I couldn't resist petting it. I would

itch, and my eyes would react to the point that the whites of my eyes would

swell. I developed a tolerance to cats after sleeping over at a friends house

several times. She had a gorgeous longhair calico and I would wake up with

him on my chest. One morning, I noticed I wasn't itching or sneezing. I never

had a problem with him again and my reactions were less severe with new cats.

To make a long story short, Tolerance can be built up to animals. We now live

with a dog and a cat and fish. Chelsea loves all three and is truly

fascinated by animals. Chelsea had occasionaly spit out a word and once it

was " pa-bo " , our dogs name being Pablo.

As for milk products, there could be some truth in that. My eczema flared to

intolerable levels this summer and after some reading, I am doing the

elimination diet. For about 2 months, I have cut out wheat and dairy. My

condition has improved. but I am also making an effort to eat healthy in

general.

I also believe nasal allergies are what contribute to the wet sound in

Chelsea's throat. She has dysphagia and her snot runs down the back of her

throat instead of out her nose. She has been on Claritin for awhile and it

has helped, better than Nasonex we used prior(and still use). She also uses

Flovent ans Albuterol(as needed) with chest pt for her suspected lung issues.

Hope I have not bored you all!
