Re: A breakthrough with a doctor at UCSF! by: " Sherri White " sherriwhitern@... sherriwhitern Fri Sep 25, 2009 2:40 am (PDT) I see two neurologists in San Francisco, CA. My primary neurologist, Dr. Amy Akers, prescribed LDN for me in May of this year. I took it concurrently with Tysabri until I got sick later that month with an upper respiratory infection. She and I both agreed it was time to take a holiday from Tysabri. I met with her last month and she wanted me to go back on Copaxone (with the LDN, too). My husband and I said we would like to wait until we saw the neurologist at UCSF before we made a decision. My appointment with Dr. Doug Goodin at UCSF was this morning, and I have wonderful news for the LDN community! He recommended that I stay off Tysabri (he honestly believes it will be pulled off the market within the next three years due to increased PML cases) and he doesn’t agree that I should start any disease-modifying drugs. He believes I need to stay on LDN. Although he said they don’t know right now what effect LDN has at stopping the progression of the disease, he believes it is promising based on the small study done by his colleague, Dr. Cree, and what other patients are telling him. He said they are trying to get more grant money to do another study. Dr. Goodin plans on calling Dr. Akers to discuss the plan tomorrow. This is great news! Physicians in this area are finally starting to acknowledge LDN as a treatment for multiple sclerosis!
