I can relate. I get numbness and stiffening in my legs after sitting for

long periods of time (sometimes not even a long time, it happens within a

matter of minutes). I try to walk quickly in the hallways to avoid cramping

(if find its worse if i'm moving slowly). Its embarrassing because

sometimes I'll try to get up from my seat, but one of my legs will stay in a

sitting position so I walk with a bit of a limp until it goes away. I'm in

OAC (grade 13) so i know what its like to be in school and have this stuff

happen...it stinks!

Alisha,

I had severe numbness in my arms, of all places, when in college. I just

had to shake them real hard when that happened, then the numbness would

go away. I don't know if you can shake each leg or not in your seat. Ask

that teacher, or rather 'demand' but in a nice way, with your CMT, that

you 'need' to be seated up front in class. At last if you are sitting up

front, you won't have to climb over other students as you leave early.

As for missing work, maybe could you ask the teachers each week for that

week's work? I used to teach and believe me, I had all my lesson plans

done way ahead of time, so I would hope your teachers could give you the

work for each week without too much difficulty. I realize you are in

Canada, and I don't know enough about what schools there do for the

disabled. But I would encourage you to be as assertive about this as you

can. I am just learning about the IEP's here in the States. I wish

somehow you could get a scooter to use at school. Is there any Canadian

Foundation or organization that can help you get one? Does CMTint have

any leads for you on this? Sorry I am not more help.

Another idea: Does anyone there do home-schooling for high school

students? You might look into that, especially if your physical needs

are not being met by the public school.

Rita, thanks for the info. My B12 is also Methlcobalaman, and under the tongue, and 1000. So I am at least on the right track. Did you also have numness? Do you have a site to go to to see more info on it? I really appreciate it. I may buy that brand when I run out of mine. Take Care!

It is important to point out that the B12 needs to be the sublinguals or shots. I've seen some B12's in the health food stores that are to be taken like any other pill, but these don't work, as the digestive process inhibits greater absorption, and while the bottle of B12 pills may state 1000 mcgs, what you actually absorb through the digestive tract can be much, much smaller.

It is also important that the B12 be in methylcobalamin form, as it is the active form of Vitamin B 12. Cyanocobalamin is converted by the liver before it is actively used. We have a bunch of posts in the archives on methylcobalamin.

I also found it extremely hard to find the methylcobalamin in injectable form. I take B12 shots to make sure I am getting what I need, but I buy mine from the Gerson clinic, and they only sell the cyanocobalamin form. It is good to know that the sublinguals are helping you!

Jullie that is great about the numbness. I recommended B12 lozenges to this group before, it has so many health benefits. A great one is by Now, the type of B12 it is helps heal nerves and the Central Nervous System, you typical B12 oral supps are not as effective. It is Now brand, "Brain B-12", 1000 mg under-the-tongue lozenge. The type of B12 is Methylcobalamin. Rita

Patty, Pleasedo me a fovr. Can you send what you think are the most important links re: dangers and the studies on implants, so I can send them to steph at MTV . I am looking through mine, and do want to miss anything important. lLooks like they are very interested, had 3 phone calls already, emailed two pages of pictres, and the last one was with the producer on the phone with . They are aking me what IAm doing on labor day weekend. I am kinda scared, I mean I just moved into my neighborhood, what will the neiughbors think about an MTV truch there for 3 days? My mom and dad are totally agiainst this, the women I work with would love to get this scoop,(total witches) and Im kinda busy to be dealing with all the after drama of what this will create. It does show my life in my house, my story. EEK!

But yet, I know this is what I am sopossed to do. Theres like this peace... If I had heard one story from a girl in 1994 that scared me, I would have stopped plans. I mean I cancelled my surgery three times. All I needed wasnt much. I wish I had the info we have now. I always said, that if I come out, everyone will know, it will be on Oprah or something. Otherwise I will keep it low keyed, and help those on the computer and close to me.My in laws dont even know I had them! And if and when - God wants me to do this, he would show mw in a big way. This might be it, huh, MTV? I just hope they represent it right.

I know God will give you the peace you need about this. Trust that it is in His capable hands, and do what you feel is right.

Did you see the previous story MTV did on Kristi Wilmore? If you haven't, I wish I could somehow get you a copy of it--I have it on VHS, and they did a GREAT story--there was no cover up or glossing over what happened to Kristi...they showed a woman here in Vegas getting implants (she is a dancer) and how she was thrilled about them, but then they also showed Kristi's side and how bad her life was with them and how Kristi was so glad they were out of her. I mean, it was totally black and white, there was no question that some women suffer, and that is why the MTV show had such a great impact on women choosing whether or not to get implants. They made a big difference for alot of women. I have no doubt they will do the same, showing both sides in a fair way.

As for your family and friends, I know it is scary. When I was on national TV (NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, my few moments in the spotlight) in March 2000, it was the same story--my inlaws had no idea I had implants, and I just prayed that they didn't see the show. They didn't! It could have still been a secret! But one of the family members with a big mouth starting talking, ("Hey, did you see Patty on national news?????" ) Then it was out, and I had to start talking. So, I guess my point is that while it may seem like everyone will know, unless they watch the show or start blabbing about it, you will be surprised how quiet it will be. It usually is not as bad as you think, but the good you can do will be more than you will ever realize.

I'll post some links....we have tons in our links section! It would take hours to go through them all, but I'll pull out the ones I think are most worthy. Definitely all the links from Dr. Zuckerman's site.

I admire you so much for considering the MTV spot. . .

I'm wondering though, if it will really draw the attention that you are concerned about. . . Unless you live in a really small town where everything is broadcast over morning coffee, or at ladies meetings. . . I doubt that most the target audience for MTV will be your neighbors, family or fellow employees, unless they happen to be in that age group. I would request that MTV respects your personal privacy as much as possible while still telling your story. You needn't be the talk of the town.

However, MTV's target audience is the one that really needs to get the message. You could do so much to help thousands of women.

God Bless,

Rogene, thanks for your kind input. I guess I have to get to the point that this is not a shameful, or a stupid thing I have done, that needs to be hidden in the past. There is so much blame when it comes to this topic, I catch myself all the time, placing the burden on my self. That I did this to myself, that it is all my fault. Now I have to live with the consequences.

But that shouldnt be, and I know that .Although I dont play a complete victime role, as I have made my choices, I was not given an informed, fair choice. And in order to change this, I need to use this to infom others.Even though I am apprehensive, I think I should do it. I need to get over the fact of" myself", and being a little selfish about how people will view me. I need to try to think about the whole picture, the other young women out there about to ruin their health, and do it for their good. I wish it would have been done for me. How I wish these stories were out then. Thanks though.
