I pushed the button for the elevator and couldn't move fast enough to get in before the door closed. I had lined up a substitute teacher for the dance class I teach at night. He did a work-up and said that the initial treatment for all of them would be prednisone. He gave me a prescription. I think I started with 25 mg. I took them at 3:30 (at the pharmacy) and by 6:30, I was able to teach my class. There was one woman whom I was with the night before the prednisone and the day I took it. She said it was a miracle. I am now on 5 mg a day. I'm also on 4 Mtx pills and Remicade. For awhile during the introduction to Remicade, the fatigue was gone, but now it's back a little. dd **************Great Deals on Dell Laptops. Starting at $499. Guest guest
My guess it's a part of a standard intial work up to rule out other, similar, diseases. Most of us with RA have close family members with other autoimmune diseases. When I switched rheumatologists they even repeated the lupus tests saying they were just part of being a new patient to the practice. Kate F ________________________________ From: " danielskathy@... Guest guest
Thank you Kate. Yes, you are right, this is my initial work up. Getting blood drawn on Saturday. Doc prescribed prednisone but too tired and sore to drive to store today....... Kathy > > My guess it's a part of a standard intial work up to rule out other, similar, diseases. Guest guest
Thanks for the nudge, sitting here like a bump on a long definately wasnt helping. Just got back, drove all the way down there and pills already down my hatch! I have never had prednisone and had no idea it could work so fast and effectively. Hope it kicks in soon. Apparently is it 40mg for 3 days then 10 mg less every five days. I am recently laid off, so with the pharmacy discount card it was only $7, not bad at all! Thanks again, Kathy > > Kathy, maybe try the drugstore back and see if they have a delivery service. Guest guest
Nice to meet you dd. I hope to have as good as results from the prednisone as you did! Intersting though, it was my primary care physician that prescribed the prednisone (and alot higher dose than you), I cant get into the Rhu till March, plus it will be interesting to see how the bloodwork turns out. I'll just have to hurry up and wait........ Kathy > > In a message dated 2/5/2009 1:37:54 P.M. Guest guest
Hi Kathy: So glad you started on Pred. I have been on it 5 1/2 years, and can't function without it, plus the RA pain would be unbearable. It is a God send for me. Welcome to our wonderful group of caring and loving people. Wishing you pain free days ahead. Hugs, Barbara > > > > > > My guess it's a part of a standard intial work up to rule out > > other, similar, diseases. Guest guest
Thank you Baraba, nice to meet you! I am thrilled and relieved to find such a nice group to take me in =) Slight delay with todays dose of prednisone, had to fast for blood tests. After driving 40 minuts to the clinic with half printed out and half hand written evidence of my new health insurance, arrived there without the paperwork ordering the tests....... So, after waiting 5 hours my 12 hour fast then became a crabby 17 hour fast, got blood drawn then staight to the hospital cafeteria for a feast =) Took the pred after my feast late today. It still hasnt kicked in that much, but felt so much better last night after my first dose. Question, kind of makes sense in my mind to take 4 pills throughout the day instead of all four at once, to keep a better level in my bloodstream, any thoughts? This seemed to help with an unrelated surgery and painkillers many years ago. KD > > > > > > > > My guess it's a part of a standard intial work up to rule out > > > other, similar, diseases. Guest guest
Hi Kathy: I take my 10 mg. of Pred. in the morning. When I have had to take massive doses of Pred., my Rheumy has me take them 4x a day. This was short term use, and gradually tappered off the Pred. If I have to stay on a certain dose, then I take them all in the a.m. I sure hope you are feeling better each day. I know I could never get out of bed without the Pred. It has worked wonderfully for me. I hope you get the same good results. Take care, and God Bless you.
