I have just changed jobs, therefore changing insurance companies from Aetna to Prudential. Actually my insurance goes into effect 11/30. From the looks of the previous messages, I might be up for a battle with my insurance company. I'm not worried about that. I have a few questions… how was the pain (really?) I have never had surgery and am the biggest wuss in the world. But from what I have read, Dr. R and his staff are wonderful. I am getting married in a little over a year and want to have children w/in the next couple of years. I plan to ask the doctor about that; but was wondering if anyone had input about having children after the surgery. Talk to you later! Guest guest Posted October 19, 1999 Report Share Posted October 19, 1999 Hi: I had the surgery March 5, 1999. I remember as I was coming out from the anethesia my sister hit the morphine pump for me. Other than that time, I had no pain and did not use the pump at all. It was almost painless. I was up walking the hall that evening. I have seen posts from ladies who have had children after the surgery. I am sure some of them could tell you more about that. I have lost 85 lbs since March 5. What a wonderful feeling. I can climb the stairs from the parking lot, mow my lawn and do lots of other things I could not previously do. I feel so much better. I had no problems, no complications at all. Good luck. Once all of the dr.s got credentialed with Prudential, I had an answer in about 24 hours.... Hope your submission for insurance goes as well... As for pain, beleive it or not, there really isn't much pain. It's a little uncomfortable for a while, but actual pain is really very minimal. I'm a veteran of 5 major surgeries and this one was a piece of cake as far as pain goes. Put you mind at ease about that. Plus, while in the hospital, they have you hooked up to a wonderful morphine pump so you can regulate your own pain medication. You will need to ask Dr.Rutledge about having kids..... Eva Dear Group, I am so glad to have found you, because I have no one to talk to about this. I'm surethere are some of you who have lived my situation, so I'm hoping to feel not so alone.My relationship with food has been friendlymost of my life. I was always very thin, andused to TRY to gain weight in high school because of it. I got quite used to all my friends envying my ability to eat anythingand everything and never gain an ounce. I didn'trealize this was becoming so important to myidentity.I went through a bad 4-yr marriage in my late20's, early 30's, and gained 10-12 pounds abovemy high school weight of 110 (I'm 5'7"). Thedivorce melted it all away, and I was afraid Imight have an eating disorder, because I so completely lost interest in food for the firstfew months after the divorce that I had to havefriends come and take me to the grocery when Ihad absolutely nothing to eat in the house. Icouldn't make myself go.That stage passed. I started dating and slowlythe weight returned. It took about 10 years toget to 119 or so, and I was pretty happy with the weight.However, an aside here. During this time I hada terrible caffeine and Diet Coke addiction thatI was unable to beat. This brings us to being 40, getting pregnant, and having the residual baby belly fat afterward.There was a roll that would not budge. Over thelast 6 years, this roll has increased alarmingly.I now weigh 126. I KNOW this seems great to a lotof people, but for the first time I am not able to wear the clothes I had last year, my gut seemshuge to me, I am noticebly gaining weight and Iam so freaked out. I'm so MAD!!I have joined a gym. Hate it. Hate exercising andalways have. I have never been into my body, alwaysmy head--always an "intellectual" approach to life.Very spiritual, too. I do yoga once a week. I've tried dancing, but there's nothing regular to stickto there.Another factor. When baby came along, I becameabsolutely obsessed with nutrition. Partly becauseI wanted to be the perfect mother, and partly becauseI hoped I could "cure" my depression and mood issuesby eliminating sugar and wheat from my diet. I binge, Isneak food, I eat when I'm not hungry, I stuff myselfwith restaurant food even after I'm full.Another telling point: my mother was anorexic, thenbulemic all during my high school years and into mycollege years. I want to go back to my carefree attitude about food, but I'm wondering now if all those years I was reallyovereating, and just not aware of it because I didn'thave to pay the price of weight gain? I've been working on becoming an intuitive eater for a little over a month now, maybe closer to two months. I tend to lose track of time. Before that, I was so fed up with dieting, weighing and counting everything I ate. I just wanted off the diet merry(or not so merry)-go round. I have tried just about every diet out there, and lost lots of weight, but the weight always came back over time. Anyway I was doing a lot of thinking and trying to figure out how I could stop dieting and wrestling with " to diet, or not to diet " when someone told me about Intuitive Eating, and also Thin Within. Both books are good in their own way, but I have found the principles in Intuitive eating so easy to understand, just what I was looking for. To make a long story short, I've been working on putting what I've learned into practice and doing pretty good. I've lost some weight, and love the freedom of not dieting. I've made up my mind that I will never diet again, ever! I am reading everything I can find on eating intuitivly and taking it one day at a time. Know what the crazy thing is? When I started to try to get slim I was already slim and didn't even know it. I was looking at some old pics with my daughter last night and found some of me when I was about 19 or 20 and I though, " You know I looked pretty good then. I was really pretty slim, probably about 145 lbs, mabye 150. I am 5'6 " and have big bones, so people have always thought I weighed less than I did. Anyway, the point is that I thought I was fat even when I wasn't and because of negitive thinking about myself I made myself become what I thought I was. Does that make sense? So...what I'm trying to say is don't beat yourself up because you are still not where you want to be. I'm sure you are a beautiful person just like you are and every positive step you take is a step in the right direction.
