Guest guest
I use my wc as an anchor. If you can get it close to the toilet. I stand up while holding onto the side rails and pivot and sit. Then I'd be talking to the management about getting some hold bars in the stall. How about the stalls that aren't big enough to close the door behind your wheelchair? I have alot of upper body strength but it sure would be nice to be able to shut the door behind me without having to literally collapse my chair to do so. > Any advice anyone when you've gone to a restaurant with a disabled bathroom > and, whilst you can get in there with a wheelchair, you find it has no grab > rail and the wc is not near enough to the wall to be able to lean on. > Janet
Guest guest
I just can't understand why people have a hard time with helping a handicap individual. Heck, my dad would come in and help in the restroom when I need help. My mom, my sisters, my sons, etc. They all help when I need it. I have no doubt that should I need help in a public restroon, my husband would figure out a way to get to me. No matter what. I was in a Golden Corral a few months ago and the bathroom was small and I couldn't get my wheelchair entirely in and get the door closed but there was a woman in the barthroom at the same time that came to help me. I transferred from the chair onto the toilet (fully clotherd), she wheeled my chair out and held the door shut (cuz I couldn't reach it) while I did my business. She had a sister that was in a wheelchair so it was second nature for her to help. It was greatly appreciated. > Outside of complaining bitterly to the owner, no...;-) > > Seriously, this problem happens with my wife when she goes to her > sister's house. Guest guest
Walgreens sells small grab bars with suction cups so the are moveable. I wonder if that might help? I will check them out this weekend. Janet To: mscured From: sday13@... , I got in the habit of sitting or leaning while dressing. I am at the stage now that I HAVE to have some support or I would fall over. Even when I go to the bathroom I put the back of my right calf against the toilet to pull down my pants and my forehead against the wall so I can use both hands to pull them back up when I'm done. .............. _________________________________________________________________ Show them the way! Guest guest
I'd be scared to put my whole weight on them. Do you think they'd take it? (112 lbs) http://www.live.com/getstarted.aspx
Guest guest
Thanks . I'd never thought about the option of transferring fully clothed. People here (Spain) are so helpful and there is always someone waiting to help. As long as the misalligned MS cells remember that I'm still fully-clothed, that sounds like a good option. Lots of times my husband has had to come in the restroom to sort me out. We've had many a strange look on emerging Janet To: mscured@...: toddsgirl1977@...: Sat, 10 Jan 2009 12:13:05 -0500Subject: Re: Re: Fw: [LDN_Users] Study (bathrooms) I just can't understand why people have a hard time with helping a handicap individual.
