E-mailed Oprah

I know it's far fetched but I e-mailed Oprah about doing a show on the topic of fibromyalgia. There aren't many shows that are a varied about topics but what the heck, maybe if we all e-mail her repeatedly someone will listen. Just an idea. Donna S.

1. While it is wonderful to share our experiences with everyone on the list as to what treatments do and don't work for us, pls always check with your dr. Some treatments are dangerous when given along with other meds as well as to certain health conditions or just dangerous in general.

2. If you are in a difficult situation (doesn't matter what it is) pls don't be afraid to ask for help. It is the first step to trying to make that situation better.

3. To unsubscribe the e-mail is: Fibromyalgia_Support_Group-unsubscribe

4. Also, it is not uncommon for more than one member to be feeling bad at the same time when it comes to flares and b/c of that potentially take something another member says the wrong way. And that includes the things that one member may find funny (even if it's laughing at fibro itself) even though we who deal with illness whether one such as fibro or multiple illnesses try to keep a sense of humor.

5. Pls let's be gentle with each other, and if you are having a bad day pls let us know so that we can do our best to offer our support.

Have a nice day everyone.

I emailed Montel a couple of weeks ago when we were talking about FMS

not have a face like other dieases and cancers do. I think that we

need to get a list of contacts together and start sending emails.

I think its a terrific idea!! I think we should stick to Oprah as she has the most credibility, power and exposure. Where did you go and what did you say (so were all on the same page) in Canada Glenda Sprouse wrote: I think it's a great idea. I followed your lead and e mailed her also. I hope more people do!!! If anyone wants them, I have email addresses for 48 Hours, 60

Minutes, Dateline, NBC Nightly News, then if you want to send

something to Oprah, Montel, 20/20, Primetime, or Nightline, then you

will have to go to their websites.

Jayne,

Dateline already did a story on fibromyalgia.

The Nightly News did a series about chronic pain just recently.

Can't tell you if fibro was mentioned or not in the series b/c I

didn't get a chance to see it.

Jayne,

Ignore the other message I just sent about repeating what I said

about Dateline.

If you write make sure to ask them to do a follow-up on the

story they did in 1999.

The debate over the issue, especially when it came to

neurologists was something else.

If you or anyone else has Discovery Health Channel keep checking

to see if they might show the program again.

it would be nice if someone had an email address to get past the form page on oprah's site.. where a person could write a longer email..

and if she gets as many as she says she gets others had best get busy and start typing.

so that they can be noticed

In another fibromyalgia group I belonged to this idea was tried, never

got a hint that Oprah's staff even considered researching

fibromyalgia. It was back when she was doing the program about how

people who have used pain medication( Rush Limbaugh fiasco) become

addicts.

I think Miss Oprah is closed minded and wont acknowledge disease

until it strikes her. But, then again she has enough money to buy the

very best of medical care.

I think this is a fabulous idea, not far fetched at all. And something also to help us get this noticed with them is to not only hear from us who are suffering with this but for them to also hear from our loved ones whom suffer right along with us. Please all, forgive me - I'm going backward on these posts since I haven't been on since last Sunday - I already mentioned that I've written to Oprah many times - real letters on real stationery and I've never heard a word back. As far as I know, no shows have been done on FMS which is absolutely irresponsible since she is supposedly "for women!" I'm probably overstepping myself on all of this. I really can't get here until the weekends. Let's get going and get on Oprah's back about this!!! Deb, I think it was that group that got me writing to her and I think I remember they were pretty ugly that she didn't even give them the time of day. You may surmise I don't have a lot of respect for her - I don't! But it still doesn't hurt to try. And I think I will try again. She never even acknowledged the two typewritten letters I sent to her. She's rude, if you ask me. This is an important subject to not just women, but men as well.
