Its the only soap I can use that doesn't dry my skin out completely.. She said that it is the cleanser she uses. I haven't tried it yet even though she gave me some samples. My daughter dragged me to the Clinique counter (she gets a discount at Federated Dept. Stores) and I bought their aloe cleanser and their brown soap for oily skin. I'm very happy with it. But I should be for the price. In the past because Cetaphil tended to make me so " bumpy " after a 2-3 week use stint, I had switched to using Eucerin soap which seems to feel as if it's clearing gunk from the pores. I get them on my scalp, too! They hurt in those places too. They eventually go away, but I wonder why I get them there. Anyway, I don't like Cetaphil either. It doesn't take off my makeup and my skin gets redder because I can't wash it properly. That might be a low level seb-derm thing. I notice if I don't wash my face at least once a day, my skin gets really red. It gets better when I do wash it with a cleanser that doesn't irritate too much. Dove is the one that does least harm. (I wish I could find something better.) I tried Spectro-Derm which is supposedly milder than Cetaphil. However, it was the most drying, redness evoking cleanser I ever used! It took my skin a few days to get over the assault. I always go back to Dove it seems.... I thought I could use it for showering and keep it away from my face. No such luck! I don't know how it migrated to my face, but I had a bad reaction to it. It is frustrating, not to mention expensive, to keep buying products that don't work. I could really open my own drugstore from all the rejects that I have in my closet! Does anybody else feel the same way? My husband used to use Noxzema, but he can't because I reacted to his face when I kissed and cuddled with him. Isn't that crazy. If I'm not mistaken, the bar has mineral oil in it which is a major no-no for some of us with rosacea. I would estimate that more than 5% of rosacea sufferers flare from mineral oil. Please tell us how you conducted this study to back up your statistics. Who did you poll, how many took part in the study, and was it a blind test? Did you have some control measures in place? In addition, post the ingredients of Cetaphil Bar so those with rosacea can make an informed decision on purchasing this product. A flare from a product isn't something we with rosacea take lightly. Everyone is talking about cleansers but saying lotion. I personally have used Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser for almost two years without any problem. In fact, it was recommended to me by my dermatologist and helped to control my rosacea a lot before I started using medications. On the other hand, Cetaphil Lotion is tremendously irritating to me. It was also recommended to me, but whatever is in there is a trigger for me. I think we all have different skin depending on our body chemistries, and can only try different products with which others have had success and hope for the best. You're right, we're all different in the way we react to things. I can use one of the Eucerin cremes on my skin and it stops it from itching. I use another one of their cremes(the one thats more oily) and it makes the itching worse.Who knows!!! I've been told that quite a few times, and have had very bad flares that take a few weeks to get over. You just want to put a paper sack over your head when that happens. I appreciate that you placed the ingredients of the soap on this list. I bought the Cetaphil bar soap early last year. I still have the soap and the box. One of the ingredients in that is mineral oil. It sounds like Cetaphil changed the composition of their bar since I bought it. Again, thank you very much for responding. I decided to try the lotion believing that it was all the same ingredients as were in the bar and easier to handle (not a slippery bar) for washing your face but couldn't believe the difference -- the cetaphil " lotion " was much more drying; immediately after washing, my face would become very red and blotchy. I just switched to the bar and am amazed at the difference! no more redness and much less of a dry feel. Also, as several people have stated if you look at the ingredients on the back of the lotion bottle you will notice cetyl alcohol which is a possible irritant for rosacea - for some reason, the bar does not contain this ingredient. I have been reading the postings including one from the manufacturer. The cetyl alcohol & stearyl alcohol are aliphatic alcohols that are considered moisturizers. Just because alcohol is tagged to a chemical name, doesn't mean that it will be drying. My guess to the reason why people reacted could be: 1) they didn't wash it off completely thinking that the lotion is so gentle; 2) if so as in 1) - the surfactant (sodium lauryl sulfate) that's left on the skin may be the culprit. This is not to say that SLS is bad. It is a good surfactant (cleansing ingredient ) but is not meant to remain on the skin. As I mentioned previously, soaps & cleansers are meant to dislodge sebum, dirt, makeup, sweat accumulated in the pores. They stay on the skin for seconds to be washed off with all the junk. That's why I don't like to add AHA or vitamins etc to soaps & cleansers because how can these be of benefit if they are washed off immediately? Soaps & cleansers are supposed to cleanse the skin period. This is essential especially for rosacea sufferers who tend to accumulate unwanted sebum. It is also a must to replenish the moisture with a gentle moisturizer. Sometimes a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. I am concerned by non-chemists non-MD's writing books that critique products based on ingredients. Consumers read the books as bible. Ingredients do matter but more important is the final formulation (product) and the consumer's sensitivities & uniqueness. One must learn to be an independent thinker. Your skin is the ultimate authority - it will tell you what it doesn't like as long as you use the product properly. Soaps & cleansers are supposed to cleanse the skin period. This is essential especially for rosacea sufferers who tend to accumulate unwanted sebum. It is also a must to replenish the moisture with a gentle moisturizer. Sometimes a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. I am concerned by non-chemists non-MD's writing books that critique products based on ingredients. Consumers read the books as bible. Ingredients do matter but more important is the final formulation (product) and the consumer's sensitivities & uniqueness. One must learn to be an independent thinker. Your skin is the ultimate authority - it will tell you what it doesn't like as long as you use the product properly. In the past because Cetaphil tended to make me so " bumpy " after a 2-3 week use stint, I had switched to using Eucerin soap which seems to feel as if it's clearing gunk from the pores. The other superfatted soap I've used is Basis, but Dr. Sy's is better.
