Guest guest
Hi Kami, I have been wearing a tennis elbow brace since June. It helps a little but not a lot. At the time that I started wearing the brace they thought that I had tennis elbow. It turned out that I have arthritis. What helped me some was the prescription that my doctor put me on. The medication that I am taking is Diclofenac. It helps me more than the brace ever did. Hope that your tennis elbow gets better. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of ~Kami~ Sent: Thursday, January 22, 2009 5:05 PM Subject: [ ] TENNIS ELBOW BRACE Anyone wear these for elbow pain/support? I have been dropping things left and right and my doctor suggested a few weeks ago that I try these.... Well, they are ugly (LOL) and I dont want to waste my time if they don't help! Guest guest
My doctor suggested Votaren Gel for my elbows but I thought I would try the brace first. I picked one up at WalMart last evening. Not very fashion forward but we shall see if it works! ****~**** Kami ****~**** RE: [ ] TENNIS ELBOW BRACE Hi Kami, I have been wearing a tennis elbow brace since June. Guest guest
You can always " spot " us 'cause we're the ones in that department checking out all the new braces and supports with a certain gleam in our eye! I find it interesting how RA effects us as individuals because we share certain issues but also have completely different things going on. In my case, I have severe issues in my shoulders and upper arms, then even more issues (agony) in my wrists and hands. But thus far, my elbows have been like a " hands-off " zone, excuse the pun. However, I've learned that's the most difficult thing to explain to people who ask about my condition, and the thing I most hate about RA, because next week I could wake up and find my elbow is completely useless due to a severe flare. I've found that supports and braces help me a lot before during and after an episode and I use them consistently on my wrists. But I'm gonna need a new closet to put all this stuff before I'm done. Guest guest
I am finally giving up on the tennis elbow bracelets and the Cortisone injections and moving on to surgery of my tennis elbow or calcification around my epicondylar tendon if you want to get technical. Mine is so bad now that the calcification showed on a plain x-ray, not just the MRI. The doctor was shocked. I told him how much pain I was in, but somehow I don't think they get how much pain we are in huh? LOL. I have to wait about a month to get into the surgeon's office but am so anxious for the surgery. I might have use of my left arm again (I am a lefty). SO, good luck with the brace, but just know that when you have RA things progress and you may end up where I am someday. Good luck to you. Guest guest
Today I wore the brace and it caused more pain.... Is that an indicator that maybe there is something more wrong? I keep dropping things... After I dropped milk and half and half in the same day, I caved and bought it........ Thankfully I still have the receipt! Or I can just throw it in the closet of OTHER medical things that haven't helped!!!! WAH! I wonder if a full elbow support would work better.... ****~**** Kami ****~****

Guest guest
Kami, IT depends on the style of brace. An orthopedic brace is there to isolate and protect muscles. Wearing this brace and doing normal stuff will usually cause more pain. A wrap, or rather a brace made of flexible bandages, will support the muscles as you do your daily stuff. Hope that helps. , a licensed massage therapist and PhD but not an MD. Today I wore the brace and it caused more pain.... Is that an indicator that maybe there is something more wrong? Guest guest
I can relate to the " buy one of everything " . I reserve the braces for keeping joints stationary and maybe compress the swelling. Creams, ointments, and such to help with pain. Dropping things, weeellll..... I still haven't found anything that really works, short of physical therapy and surgery. My dropping stuff is usually nerves being pinched. So the thoughts from my brain to my hand aren't getting from point A to point B. So trying to gasp the bag that had the dozen eggs in it so it doesn't drop, wasn't been working too well lately. Yeah, I've eat a lot of scambled eggs sometimes. But if you find something that works, I'll try it. > > I'm almost ready to go in, buy one of EVERYTHING, see what works...and take the rest back. > > I am calling on Monday for the Voltaren cream. > > > ****~**** Kami ****~**** > >

Guest guest
Kami - have you ever been checked for carpal tunnel syndrome? It is my understanding that the pain from that can radiate not only into the hands, but back up the arm as well. I had carpal tunnel release surgery done on both hands and my elbow hasn't bothered me since. I was also dropping things all over the place for apparently no reason and I rarely drop things anymore either. Doreen > Today I wore the brace and it caused more pain....
