Guest guest
I have to stress not to get upset with numbers. While the scale may not move, you may be loosing inches. Make sure you measure monthly! I haven't lost a thing now for almost a month, yet the inches are coming down. That is what matters. Keep in mind you will always reach a level that may last sometime and not loose a thing. As you are increasing your exercise level and building muscle, this also will weigh more. Muscle is heavier than fat, thus another possible reason you are not loosing right now. Hang in there, again been there, done that and still doing it.. but eventually it comes off. What a great feeling, you are not a failure! May just take a little longer we are all different!
Guest guest
Toni, 4 weeks isn't long enough to work on this!!! Easy for me to say I am sure, but I hear everyone loses at a different rate. some of these people have reported months before they lost a chunk of weight!!! Isn't that true??? EC. Guest guest
How can you say it hasn't worked, you've lost 22 lbs. I know every diet I ever went on I never was this successful. Don't be a slave to the scales. Compare how things fit you now. I have lost 100 lbs. in the 7 months since my surgery and I have reached several stuck spots but I have continued to lose inches. When we go into this we expect miracles and we get them but sometimes we expect more. Hang in there, 6 months from now you will be several sizes smaller. You too will have the awesome experience of shopping on the " other side " instead of having to shop only on the plus side. > What is going on with me? > > > > I am pretty upset here. Guest guest
Having my surgery on December 7th, 1998 I want to take an opportunity to respond to this posting. At times, I also feel like a failure especially when I see photos or read that some are almost at their ideal weight. What I have to keep reminding myself is that we all loose at different rates and our bodies are so different ... we will not be alike. I also was much larger than the average person having this procedure so for me, that extra hundred pounds more than the average person having the surgery, also will mean that I will need more than just a year or so to reach a weight suitable for my height. I feel it is important to stress that this is not a " diet " to fail at but rather a lifestyle modification that you do have to surrend and accept that you need to change your lifestyle and eating habits to be a success. I always failed in the past with attempts at weight loss, but this is the first time ever that I can honestly say, I am going to succeed with this surgery. I ! have faith that it will work. I also know due to my original weight that I will probably take two years to reach an ideal weight. What is important to me is that the " quality " of my life has improved so much with my " improved health " that should I never loose any additional weight, I will be happy at a size 20. When you go from wearing a size 5x top or 52 waist pants down to a 2x top or 20/22 pants ... that is a miracle to me. I feel fantastic! I want to stand on the highest mountain and shout to everyone how wonderful I feel. Toss out your scale and just judge how you are doing with this surgery on your inches and how does your body feel! People know better now than to ask me, how much have you lost ... now, they ask how do you feel! Don't worry about what your family is expecting ... did you have the surgery for them or for you? Before you get all bent out of shape ( easy to say now that I can bend over) ask why did I have this surgery? Nothing or no where is it etched in stone, this is the easy way out .. so don't expect it to just " melt " away either. You have to make it work with lifestyle modifications, diet changes and exercise. Just my feelings but I hate when I see people getting frustrated over not loosing! Sorry to ramble. Guest guest
Toni, everyone is different. Water is lost first and your body adjusts to its new digestive system. I'm a pre-op, but from what I've been told by those who have already had WLS, the plateau of " no weight loss " is common. You're probably still losing inches. Toss the scale (scales are for fish) and use your measuring tape instead. If that isn't handy, try on your clothes. You'll probably find the clothing is looser and looser on you, even though the scale doesn't show any weight loss. We all expect so much of ourselves, it's a wonder that we don't go stark raving mad! Guest guest
Carlissa, you can decide whether they will be right or they will be wrong. What does your heart tell you about this? Is this something you plan on failing at? I sure don't think that you're planning to fail...you have sounded so positive about wanting this surgery to help you lose your excess weight. So! If you aren't planning to fail, you must be planning to succeed! Let the nay-sayers titter and giggle all they want, Carlissa. YOU are a capable and bright woman. You don't have to do what they expect you to do; you have a choice. Sit down and write (yes, write) down three things that you don't like about yourself. Take that piece of paper and fold it up and put it off to the side. Now, woman!, take a piece of paper and write down six things about yourself that are pretty darn neat! (I know that this part usually takes longer than the first part....<smiles>) You don't have any choice about what these other people think of you or expect of you...they aren't you. You only have a choice about your reaction to them and their attitudes or behaviors. What's your choice, Carlissa? Are you going to take good care of yourself or let them bully you again? Guest guest
Peggy, SLOW LOSER HERE!!! I was getting worried I was the only one!! I had my surgery on 8/2/99 and three weeks ago I had lost 36.5 lb. I weighed about and no change at all for the second week in a row!!! I am going to try to weigh again tomorrow and see if there is a change. I know something is happening though because my jeans that were to tight a week ago are definitely fitting a little better (they aren't cutting off my breath when I sit down! LOL!) in AL
Guest guest
Toni, hang in there and have faith. You know if you are eating 1/4th of what you use to that you are going to lose the weight. I found that my body did not like the less food situation and held onto a lot of water for several weeks then one day it just all started working. You have to realize that you have changed the whole way your body does business and it will put up all the defenses possible to maintain the old way of life. You have done the right thing and it will work. Put your scales in the closet and don't get them out for 3 months, okay. Haven't you let the numbers rule your life long enough. Start living by the way you feel!!! Don't you notice a difference in the way you feel when you are walking up a flight of stairs or putting on your cloths or taking a shower. Learn to notice the small changes and be grateful for them and forget the numbers. It will work for you!!!! Start being kind to yourself both mentally and physically. Guest guest
What an awful feeling isn't it? You fear you may fail as it is but to have other people waiting for it to happen? I am sorry your family feels this way. Maybe it is because of lack of knowledge? WLS has sure come a long way from even just a few years ago. Makes me wonder how long ago the person that re-gained the weight had the surgery. I too know of someone that had it about years ago and is even bigger now. Her surgery was done alot different then mine though. Good luck. You will make it and so will I. I guess it took me my whole life to gain this weight. I can't expect it to come off over night. Guest guest
You are so right Debbie and I know it but I guess I am my toughest critic. I have to be more patient and stop expecting the weight to come off so quickly. I think it's time to throw my scale away, Hehehe. I will put it away for awhile. That should help. Guest guest
Elaine You just made me want to hide under the bed. Im so ashamed of myself for complaining. I have not lost this much weight in years and I have the nerve to complain. I must apologize to everyone who has read any of my negative messages. I am blessed to have been able to have the surgery and lose 23 lbs. Sometimes we get used to moaning and feeling sorry for ourselves. Now that I have something to be happy about I don't know how to act. No more complaints from this day forward. I promise. Thanks for the Karate chop Elaine.
