Guest guest
I just looked at Sherry's pictures at the ds site (thanks and Sherry) and am marveling at her success so far! However I just have one concern - how common is the incision made horizontally on the body, or transverse? My old scar (from VBG '88) is vertical and I don't think I want a horizontal or a " cross. " TIA Robin
Guest guest
Robin, Drs. Anthone/Crookes both do their incisions vertically. Mine is about 1 " lower than my breasts and goes all the way to my navel. Maybe 10-12 " in length. But, as always, YMMV. My old scar (from VBG '88) is vertical and I don't >think I want a horizontal or a " cross. " Awww...you could start a whole new trend! I am no expert, but my understanding is that the transverse incision is a special feature with Dr. Baltasar. Most, maybe all?, of the other doctors use a vertical incision. Hope this helps.... ===== H San Francisco Bay Area mailto: hillsmith2000@... __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Robin -- Dr Rabkin uses a vertical incision when he does an open DGB/DS; he also does laparoscopic DGB/DS, so those incisions are tiny and quite different. Dr. Welker has used a vertical incision and at other times has used a variant of a transverse incision -- I have heard it described as a widened or elongated upside down U. I don't know what causes him to use one technique over another. I know Dr Baltasar does the tranverse incision -- I don't know if he uses a vertical incision for the DGB/DS, ever. Good luck! Guest guest
Yippee!! an answer, <g>. Thanks , for the info on incisions. Yes the patient I was referring to was one of Dr. Baltazar's. I was just curious about that. I do not want a horizontal incision personally. I'm afraid it would get lost in my rolls ;-) I wonder if I can get my doctor to stitch me up and not close with staples--? I wonder also if he can take off these annoying skin tags on my neck--? While he's at it, I could sure use a pedicure. <g> I can't wait for my consult. I have a list of other questions I'm going to hit poor Dr. Crookes with! Thanks again for replying. Guest guest
Robin.. .I had Dr. Anthone and he doesn't use staples.. Not sure about Crookes? He trained with Dr. A... maybe it's the same.. Depending on your body type, you may not get either.. (staples or stitched). Sometimes they leave it open to heal to decrease the risk for infection....... heidi Home Page: http://www.myWLS.com Direct email: mailto:heidij@... I believe his reasoning is that if there is a need to open part of the incision (because of infection or need of drainage) it is easier to do with the staples. I'm sure you can ask him, however. rand

Leave it open? Oh dear dear dear. We can't have that. Dr. Crookes is going to think I'm a primadonna with all my " special requests. " (Thank you for your reply!) Guest guest
Dr. Crookes uses glue like Dr. Anthone does. No staples, no stitches that show. I had staples the first time long ago, and the glue beats the staples, hands down! Guest guest
Margie thanks for the response about the incision by Dr. Crookes! Boy the list has been busy lately. I wonder if some of our posts are getting overlooked with all the action. I'm really looking forward to meeting Dr. Crookes. If you were closer to me, I'd ask you to be my angel. About everything you've posted has been right on with me. Robin F

Guest guest
Darn, I meant for my last post to go directly to Margie, not to the list. Sorry for cluttering with personal messages! Guest guest
Heya Rand... several have said he does and some have said he doesn't. Apparently it's a case by case thing. I'm going to ask him anyway. Thanks everyone for the info!! Robin
