Guest guest
Wen, I'm a little backed up on my e-mails so I've missed something, what are you having removed? Is it your thyroid? I have nodules on mine, but my doc never mentioned surgery. Guest guest
Dani, Ninety percent of nodules in the thyroid are benign. Best way to check on them is a biopsy done by a knowledgeable endocrinologist and also an ultrasound. I have a nodule on my thyroid as well. I was told about this in 2003 but wasn't able to do anything about it until now and I'm going to try and get in with the endocrinologist that I had in 1997 to have him check this out. And if it does need to be tended to surgically I will push to see an endocrine surgeon. (Yep, there really is such a specialty, found out about it thru a website a friend gave me that explains about thyroid nodules.) , I've heard of people who are both hyper and hypothyroid at the same time. Pls get a second opinion on this thing of having surgery just to be on the safe side. As Dani said not all nodules need to be surgically removed, sometimes they can be managed with medication or just watched. Guest guest
hey kisty... i was just going to email you ...i know you wanted to hear about the appt. the one in my left thyroid is a goiter. not sure if it makes a difference or not. he also said that is called a heart nodule...it 3x the size of what it should be. he said depending on the blood tests- he would recommend the surgery for a few reasons... it is bothering(hurting when i sallow etd and its making my mfps a lot worse at times)me, the could bio it(cancer does run in my family-my nana just died from it in nov, and she had breast cancer 20 yrs ago and now it was bone) so i would want it tested no matter what... just for me to feel better if nothing else... he did tell me that most are not cancer but he would want to anyway. i can try and get a 2 opion but thats more waiting. it took me long enough to find out whats going on- getting into the doc was hard. my family doc had to put another call in to pull strings. i think from what i was hearing that there are only 2 in the hosptial i was in and at my doctors hosptial there was none.. i will do some reading more about it. i like to keep myself up to date on things. the thyroid doc was very pleased that i came in with i typed list of my meds, questions and issues.. lol most get pissy when i do that. hell there was times i bought my fibro book into my old doctor and said seee they do use this... my hubby was thinking that is what my thyroid was doing. jumping back and forth... that would explain more things.. lol but i am a odd one so lol it wouldnt surpise me at all... thanks for the note hugz wen Font: Tombola 14pt Created for Personal Use Only! Guest guest
I know exactly what you mean. I just had a root canal and crown done and I thought I'd scream. I kept telling the dentist that I had to change my position and I think he got irritated. Also, I have extreme tinnitus from menieres disease and the drill noise actually caused tears. I don't know, I've about had it! Guest guest
I hear ya! three Years ago, I broke my wrist, and had to have surgery to pull the bones together, plates and screws. It was out patient surgery with a nerve block. The Tourniquet hurt me a lot, and I also couldn't lay still, it took 2 hrs. My surgeon, was very unsympathetic and impatient. I kept telling him it hurt. Begrudgingly he gave me a pain shot, but acted like I was a big baby. Then when it wore off in an hr.(with another hr to go) he wouldn't give me another, and I sqirmed, and was hurting so much. the tourniquet was part of it, and my normal pain was the other. It hurts me to even have my BP taken, when they pump up the cuff, let alone a band around my arm for 2 hrs. He told me to lay still, I said it hurts, he said, You want me to close don't you. I said, of course, but it HURTS. He still acted like I couldn't be hurting that bad. Then when he finished and took of the tourniquet, he said " Well, it is awfully red " I thought well DUH, and I said, " I TOLD you it HURT " I told my Rheumy about it, she had heard that he was like that. I sure don't want him again! I know exactly what you mean. I just had a root canal and crown done and I thought I'd scream. I kept telling the dentist that I had to change my position and I think he got irritated. Also, I have extreme tinnitus from menieres disease and the drill noise actually caused tears.
