Guest guest
" We do not need your permission to seek information from third parties about your children. " This is a direct quotation I received from the school principal and school supt. today, in response to my complaint of the school contacting third parties without my written authorization. For those of you with experience in these areas, and since this is governed by federal (rather than state) law, doesn't this statement from the school sound incorrect? Thanks for your help once more, Dena
Guest guest
Hi Dena, Here are two sites for FERPA and the Privacy Act of 1974. http://www.foia.com/PRIVSTAT.html http://www.ed.gov/offices/OM/fpco/ferparegs.html Both of these talk about actual records, but maybe you can find something for oral/written communication. I know at the kids' schools the nurse can call our docs and talk about stuff without my consent. To send/receive any copies of records though they do need my written permission. Good luck... Guest guest
hello i know little or nothing on the rules of schools..... but i do know a bit of medical law. as far as i know, anybody can inquire about anything , to anybody. even if it sounds nosey and none of their business. however, if they are asking medical questions from your daughters physicians, the dr's are violating patient/ dr. confidentiality if they release that info without your consent. if this is the problem you're having, i would go straight to the dr. and let them know you are not putting up with that. then when the school nurse or ( gladys cravits LOL) calls, they can tell them that that info cannot be released without your consent.
