nicki, you have a good sense of humor.I like the reading the face like braille

part. Isnt it the truth! I keep telling myself in the morning DONT GO TO THE

MIRROR IN THE BATHROOM !!,but some demon drags me there each day anyway and so

the day begins.... Its very hard to deal with people who have never

experienced a skin problem of this magnitude. You just hope youve camaflouged

as much as youve can without it looking like make-up(especially being a guy

who works in a salon!) And that all the varying size bumps and degrees of

redness arent TOO visible. (unfortunately I work directly under a flourescant

light! Im ready to design my own lighting system soon!).Anyway its been great

for me to read what all of you go through.I try to hold onto it the next day

when Im among more normal skinned people whose biggest concern in life seems

to be getting over the flu! Thanks for yor stories.

bill...

i bet you are going to look wonderful after the acutane works for

you...my sons both took it for acne..and the dry skin-cracked lips dry

eyes....were really bad ..but my oldest son has beautiful skin

now...their derm gave them prescription creams for their lips

the youngest son couldn't take it..it caused his blood tests to be high

in something ..so he was very disappointed...but it seems as if he has

finally grown out of his acne...

my derm gave it to me a few years ago..and i ended up not taking it...it

was a very light dose and at that time he didn't know if it would

help..and i chickened out..but now i think there is better understanding

of how it works for rosacea..

Lucky you Carol....

I've been going to an HMO doc..and finally went last month to

a non-HMO one..and she didn't have anything new for me except her laser (

which i am going to pass on) and a different antibiotic..

we all hope you will come up with some new treatment we can take to our

own doctors...

It was a high dosage and it took a while. .....When he was on it..they

had him take it for 4 or 5 months...and then he was off for a month or

so..and then after the 2nd cycle(4 or 5 months)..his face was clear and

it has stayed that way ( he is 27)....

when the HMO doc gave it to me..it was for 3 months only and a low

dose...he said i had to go have a blood work up first...and

i procrastinated....and ended up not taking it ...or getting the needle

in the arm..(yea i am a wuss about blood work)......if yours works...i

will go back and do it.....

nicki

Nicki,

I think our sense of humor with this stuff, sometimes has to carry us

through--rosacea does seem VERY upredictable! I hate to look in the

mirror during the day, because it isn't always things (mostly FACE) that

go BUMP in the night--stupid things crop up during the day, too!!!

I'm trying everything to cope; different meds; currently on Dr Sy's

experiment with cleansing, moisturizing, sun protection; next month I'm

gonna try a different doc--one who I was told, has rosacea, and has sort

of made rosacea a dermatological specialty--so I'm told--by a friend who

also has rosacea.

I remain hopeful,

Carol

Nicki, Im going to another derm because I feel the one that Ive been going to

is getting sick of me and also doesnt quite know how to deal with this sort of

problem.I have rather good insurance so I can go to whoever I want.(Thank

God!). This next derm is going to look into the allergy/food angle for me

(hopefully) to determine if food and/or environmental conditions are

triggers.Ive been on a very strict anti-yeast type of diet for months(from yet

another derm who specializes in environmetal allergic reactions) and dont know

if it is making a difference or not.I know of alot of people who react to

various foods,so i want to find out what to avoid etc...(and Im sure that wont

be easy).Plus I want his input on Accutane. If Im not satisfied with him I'll

go to NYU (I live in NY).They have a dermotology dept that specializes in all

sorts of skin disorders.Im sure my insurance co loves me! About the bloodwork,

Im not sure how often you have to be tested.I think it depends on the dosage,

but Im sure I'll find out soon.Bill

Bill,

Please keep us posted on what you find out with the new derm. I'll be

trying a new dermatologist next month. I think the ones I've been going

to (group practice--and I do mean, " practice " ) may not have a clue with

regards to rosacea sufferers. I find this e-site so helpful in so many

ways--the moral support is priceless!
