Okay. The party we were discussing earlier is on. The dates will be either

October 24 - 26, or 25 - 27 (your choice - you gotta vote on it). The

location will be either on Bledsoe's place south of Dallas between

Midlothian and Waxahachie, or on a wonderfully remote place about seven

miles south of Star (also your choice). Star is located on Hwy 84 about 75

miles west of Waco. The benefits of Dr. Bledsoe's place are community water,

electricity, closer to civilization, and a meeting room. The benefits of

Star are a more central location in the state, and a very rustic

environment. There are abundant beverage stores near Dr. Bledsoe's place,

but if we choose Star, you better bring it with you.

Here are the tentative plans:

The idea is for folks of different persuasions and from different realms of

EMS to get together and shoot the bull, tell war stories, and share

experiences. Most real advances in our profession were not accomplished in

the boardroom or by some committee or commission, but over a beer sitting in

a bar. We need to get back to that and see if we can do it again.

The party is being held over several days to allow for shift workers. We

want to give everybody a chance to join us and have as much fun as possible.

You can come and stay all three days, or just one afternoon. Your choice.

This is the first, but we hope to do it again. Perhaps next year we will do

it in the spring, about six months opposite of the conference. We will

decide that at the party.

The idea of this event originated with Gene Weatherall, so we will call it

the Gene Weatherall Memorial EMS Reunion and Chili Cook-off, because that is

what he wished for. As stated earlier, we hope to make this an annual event.

Unless someone wants to compete, there may not be much of a chili cook-off

this year, but I will still cook my chili and provide it to any and all who

think they can take the heat. I would suggest you bring beer, as that is

about the only thing that will quench the fire. I will also try to do a

couple of briskets. We are working on getting some donated beverages, but

you better check with us just before to see if were successful.

The rest of the food is still kind of up in the air. We may be able to have

a food vendor, or perhaps cater food for some of the meals. Since this is

the first time, we are flying by the seats of our pants. We are open to

volunteers who would be willing to cook a meal or otherwise be of

assistance.

Be prepared to take care of yourselves. This is as much of a campout as it

is a party. You will need to bring your tent, your trailer, your RV, or plan

on staying in a motel. If we choose Dr. Bledsoe's place, motels are

abundant. If we go to Star, there are two small motels about twelve miles

away.

We are thinking of charging a small fee charged to pay for the costs.

Probably $5.00 - $10.00. If any money is left over it will be used for the

next party. Or we may just ask for donations.

Here are the rules:

Everyone attending will be required to sign a release of liability. We fully

expect that some folks will imbibe in a little ETOH and may act a little

foolish, so expect it and be realistic about it. If someone gets out of

hand, he/she can expect the rest of us to get a little practice on

restraining uncooperative patients. We might even get some CE out of the

deal.

Certificates, licenses, resumes, and egos, will be checked at the gate and

not allowed inside. Once here we are all equal.

We need to hear from y'all as to which dates are best, and which location is

preferable. Please email your vote to me privately at donn@....

If you wish to have discussion about the party that the group might benefit

from, please post it to the list. I'd like to hear from everybody that is

planning on coming so we will know how much food and such to work on. RSVP.

We are open to all suggestions. This is an equal opportunity party.

Best regards,

Donn
