We used to see him at Children's Hospital Boston. We really liked him. He

is nice, pleasant with kids, and very knowledgable. It was a loss for

Children's when he went to Tufts. We used to find his office backed up.

Bring juice, snacks, and something to do in case you have to wait.

hi Jeff

My son goes to Dr. Korson. We previously went to Boston's Children's Hospital but to try to make a long story short, Korson left Children's for NEMC because they moved Mito to Neuro instead of Metabolics. Mitochondrial disease is the area of medicine he is most interested in. He is also working with Dr. Shoffner in Atlanta and they are hoping to do fresh muscle biopsies in the fall at NEMC.

I was not happy at all with Children's and since seeing Korson in October, we have had more conclusive tests done, faster response to problems/questions, and we are much closer to a diagnosis. (Leaning toward PDH) I truly feel that in Boston, Dr. Korson is the best.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me privately.

Sincerely,

Bridget Willis

my personal experience is that his office is very tough to get test results

from - when you are in for an appointment he seems very interested etc but

then when you leave it takes months to get info from him. If a test he runs

comes back negative, then he kind of drops you (my opinion/experience

anyway) instead of trying to figure out something else to look for. We are

looking to find a new metabolicist. As an example, I had tests done in May

and still have not gotten the results after numerous requests ( I am

certaintly hoping that the results were negative). Also, my husband and I

took time off to meet with his nutritionist as my son has a significant

weight issue and we were discussing possibly a tube feeding. The

nutritionist was supposed to review all our data and get back to us and

never did, this too was back in May and no more discussions about tube

feeding. In fact, May was the last I've heard from Dr Korson. Maybe others

have more positive experiences but personally I found him to be much more

efficient when he was at Children's hospital.

I'm a very proactive and persistent parent so the problem is not my lack of

trying...I'm just to the point that I need to focus on treatments and not

chasing down doctors all the time.

Just my experiences, he may be different when it comes to you and your

child.

Jeff:

My daughter was seen by Dr. Korson on a consult several times in the early

90's. I found him to be very caring, thorough, and spent time sharing his

knowledge of mitochondrial disorders at a time when access to the internet to

research this disorder was non existant.
