Guest guest
Kerry, Great idea. Here's my list. Metrocream - reacted to it. I turned redder. Metrogel - same deal as above. Sufacet (sp?) - Same deal Cleocin T Lotion - great on bumps. Zinc oxide - I've tried it in plain old zinc, calamine and Desitin. Wonderful for the red. Nizoral - wonderful on the red and seb/derm Mycelex - wonderful on the red and seb/derm Clotrimazole - wonderful on the red and seb/derm Aspirin - big help in a flare for the red. Minocin - big help. I hop on it early before I'm flaring and can hop back quickly. If I wait till I'm in a decent flare, it takes a long time to get off. Biaxin - very big help to me (but others did not have the same reaction to it.) Claritin - Love it. Zrytec works better for most with skin problems. I seem to do alright on Claritin and don't have any side effects though, so I'm back to Claritin. I use vaseline as my moisturizer. Neurogena Skin Cleanser for damaged skin as my face wash. Clinique's Turnaround Cream for dry skin (but this is an iffy one. Some folks had mild reactions to it.) I love it though. Bare Minerals - I can use their foundation. I also have to use a chlorine filter for my water. Chlorine is a big trigger for me. Guest guest
Kerry - I don't know if its much help but here goes: Medicines (topical): Metrocream - reacted - toooo red Klaron - mild; seems to help tone down redness; no major reaction Noritate - mild; no problems so far Medicines (oral): tetracyline - I go off in the summer -- I am paranoid of any sun reaction Makeup: Nothing in this department. I tried Prescriptives but they burned Washing/Cleansing: ONLY WATER -- I'm really afraid to use anything else. My e-mail address is:Mqn1@... Hope it helps in your research. Guest guest
Hi all, I would really like to make up a comprehensive list of the different medications and treatments, lotions, sunscreens, make-ups, etc... that we've all tried and our reactions to/opinions of them. We've talked about many different things since we started, and I'm afraid I wasn't initially organized enough to get the info I needed. If you are all game, please include where to get a product if it isn't available at a regular store. I'll start it off, and if everyone could e-mail me their info, I'll compile it and send it back to the group. Thanks! Kerry MEDICATIONS Metrogel (all over; twice a day) -works well for me; a little drying but not bad. Benzamycin (benzyl peroxide and erythromycin) (nose only; twice a day) -prevents pimples and swelling; very drying, so only for the oily spots. LOTION Oil of Olay for sensitive skin. -I only use this when my face starts to feel dry. CLEANSER Cetaphil -I really like this. It made a lot of difference to my skin during the months I was waiting for a diagnosis.

Guest guest
>Kerry - > >I don't know if its much help but here goes: > >Medicines (topical): > >Metrocream - reacted - toooo red Perhaps you are allergic to metronidazole. That happens. Noritate - mild; no problems so far Noritate is very similar to Metrocream except for the concentration. >Medicines (oral): >tetracyline - I go off in the summer -- I am paranoid of any sun reaction Why not try using a sunscreen? UV radiation is a trigger factor for rosacea flare. A good broad spectrum sunscreen that is not heavy, will prevent ultraviolet damage/flare and allow you to take your TCN. >Makeup: >Nothing in this department. I tried Prescriptives but they burned There are some other good water base makeups with sunscreen out there. >Washing/Cleansing: > >ONLY WATER -- I'm really afraid to use anything else. That's a pity. cea involves inflamation of the oil glands and a good cleansing program is necessary. Guest guest
Oral meds: 100 mg of minocin morning and evening (200 mg total) for the past nine months. 12 hour Dimetapp morning and evening (with the blue coloring washed off). Topicals: Noritate - works good. Metrocream - burns bad when having bad skin days. Metrogel - not that great. Sulfacet - works good, but drying. Works good for serborrhea also. Retin A - works good so far Desitin - trying it for the first time today. I have found that any one of these medications will stop being as effective after using it for a while. For instance, the metrocream didn't seem to be doing anything so I stopped using it and used the Sulfacet for a few weeks. When I tried the metrocream again, it worked much better. Rotating topical meds seems to be the best thing to do for me. Washing/Cleansing: Wash my face morning and evening with Jergens bar soap. Makeup: Can't use any foundation, except Almay. Using their oil-free amazing lasting makeup. Donna G.
Guest guest
Donna G, Good luck with the Desitin. You going to test it first? Esther ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Donna, I think your suggestions about rotatin topicals is very helpful, as I seem to become sensitized or used to a certain med, also....then, it quits working as well. If you're off one of them, when coming back, they do appear to regain their effectiveness! Thanks, Carol ------------------------------------------------------------------------
