Guest guest
I had to share this...I've been depressed today - one of those days again where I just can't stop crying. Octobe 12th can't come soon enough. Anyway - I finally decided to get my but butt out of bed - my hips and sciatica nerves have had it and I've been in bed alot in pain. I come over to the computer and my 11 1/2 yr. old niece Instant Messages's me....here's our conversation.... My Niece: i made fried rice 4 myself for diner My Niece: it is really goiod My Niece: i put cooked rice on the stove with butter garlic powder and garlic salt (only a little of both) My Niece: it is really yummy Soapy54: sounds yummy Soapy54: very fattening My Niece: ill make it sometime for you My Niece: no its not fried Soapy54: you better make it before my surgery - LOL. I won't be able to eat rice or butter for a while after my operation. My Niece: o that sux My Niece: why? Soapy54: I Know. Eventually in time I will be able to eat anything. But in the beginning I can only eat liquids and pured foods like soup. My Niece: that really sux! Soapy54: Yea, but think about how skinny I'll get - LOL My Niece: you don't eat liquids My Niece: i no you will Soapy54: no - you drink them. We can make snow cones and eat them - I'll be able to have them. And, I will probably have to eat Jello - but only the red one. I won't eat any other flavor. My Niece: im not worried at all you will look great even though you look great all ready My Niece: i have a snow cone maker My Niece: ok we will Soapy54: Thanks - I love you so much for saying that. My Niece: its true Let me tell you - this kid made my day and I know how much she means what she said. She actually made me cry again but this time it was HAPPY TEARS! She's getting ready to take care of me immediately post-op as I'll recuperate at my sister's house. I hope she'll be a good nurse because I don't know how good a patient I'm gonna be! LOL! Debbie R. Guest guest
Heidi, Dr. Macura is very strict post op. I am about 4 weeks post op and have not had any difficulty taking things slow. I truly feel in control again. Food no longer controls me. ^j^ mary McG In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer. Guest guest
<<Eventually in time I will be able to eat anything. But in the beginning I can only eat liquids and pured foods like soup.>> Debbie, I'm so happy that you have such wonderful support for after your surgery. I don't know what I would have done without my wonderful husband taking care of me and running to the basement to get me crushed ice 6 times a day. I also want to let you know that the beginning liquid and puree phase you mentioned is only 2 days long! On day 3, I was released from the hospital and started eating a wide variety of things like chopped liver, tuna salad, eggs, bacon, cheese, chunky soups, frozen yogurt, sorbet, well cooked Chinese veggies. By Week 2, I started on grilled cheese sandwiches, California rolls, shrimp, grilled chicken, bean burrito. In Week 3, I had filet mignon, pepperoni, cheesecake and BBQ chicken and ribs. I only feel nauseous if I let too much time pass between meals and snacks and the only thing that really affected me badly (like running to the bathroom, or else) was real milk. So, don't restrict yourself to liquids and purees. I am establishing a whole new relationship with food and it is exciting. I find that I want very very small protions of a wide variety of things. I really prefer very concentrated flavors now and I cannot believe how satisfied I am with just one or two bites of a certain thing. I do have to remind myself to eat because I just never feel hungry, and this really blows my mind. I am very happy and very hopeful for a normal life for the first time in about 20 years. You will be feeling the same way very soon. Regards, Lori Lap BPD/DS 8/17/00 Drs. Pomp and Gagner United Healthcare Select Plus POS
Guest guest
What do you mean ? Does Dr. Macura have you eat pureed food for 4 weeks? Curious... heidi Re: My Niece Heidi, Dr. Macura is very strict post op. I am about 4 weeks post op and have not had any difficulty taking things slow. I truly feel in control again. Guest guest
Debbie, Nieces are very nice to have. I have 2 of them and they are both very sensitive young ladies. I know that if I needed help they would be there in a flash. Your is young and sounds so sweet. You are very lucky, you must be a wonderful Aunt because I am sure that is one of the reasons your niece is so wonderful to you. Good luck to you on your switching day. I will be traveling to Spain that day but I will say a prayer for you. a H. San Valley 45, 5'4 " , 300+ BMI 52.8 Dr. Aniceto Baltasar, MD. I am glad she was able to perk up your day and give you happy tears. Hugs, Carla K
