Guest guest
What the heck are you doing with your kids this summer? With Kara gone and no replacement for her on the horizon, we are completely therapy-free this summer. I don't know what to do to keep him busy! Kara left me a bunch of materials, but I don't know if I should set specific time of day to do them, or just try to work them into the day as we go along... He doesn't want to take swimming lessons. We have soccer, but he doesn't like it. It's too hot to go outside; the smog warnings are in the 'if you go outside, you'll die' level. He's at loose ends, and frankly, so am I. It's tempting to let him back on the computer, but the stimming has decreased so much without it! Any ideas? I need them!!!!! Guest guest
We are the same way with no therapy this year. This is the first time since DX that Greggoru has been without anything at all for any sort of time. We are going to the movies and reading alot of books. It is cool enough to go out in the morning and so we will be doing that but the afternoon is usually too hot to be out. He does get to use the pc as we dont have a problem with it and Jeff got Greggory some new pc games and Greggory always plays his gameboy and nintendo. Jeff is also buling Greggory a new pc this summer and he is going to teach Greggory the basics of how a pc works and how to build one. Basically I am thinking of this summer as a regular vacation for him and we arent really working on anything just enjoying the free time we have together. I am trying to have " school " with Dakota every morning. Before he can turn the TV on or play he must have school. We go over things he learned in kindergarten or should have learned. We also work on getting dressed, tying shoes and so on. Each day has a different theme. We also have planned trips to the musuems, zoos, and movies. The mall here has a huge ball pit with ladders, slides and tunnels. It is Very cheap and Dakota LOVES it. Ther's also rides, games and a carousal. So we will be spending lots of time there

Guest guest
Is there an indoor swimming pool anywhere? Our zoo has a LOT of inside, air-conditioned exhibits. There are also several indoor playplaces around here, both at places like Mc's and at arcades, putt-putt golf courses, amusement park-like places... I know all about it being too hot and polluted to go outside. It is miserable. Have you looked at homeschooling web sites? You don't need to have a formal curriculum but they are very good at giving people IDEAS of things to do. It MIGHT help (or you) if you had a daily lesson at a set time...but it might be too much stress. It's up to you guys. (Obviously) Good luck!!! -Sara. Guest guest
Let me think about this Jacquie....As you know, I've gone through this MANY times. One of the things I've TRIED to do, is break up the day in blocks. At least it gives you a start and stop time for stuff. With no formal anything scheduled, it's VERY difficult to come up with your own. Believe it or not, I try to sleep as late as possible. Guest guest
> I need them!!!!! > I don't really think Putter is HFA, and he has therapies and school all summer (though the reduced hours are driving me nuts), but here are Putter's suggestions for how can amuse himself: 1. Writing on walls 2. Leaping off tall pieces of furniture 3. Running in circles in the back yard 4. Sitting in the car 5. Lying on top of cats 6. Eating pink twizzlers 7. Arranging vegetables on your mother's bed Putter hopes very much that these suggestions will prove useful! Salli
