Guest guest
Belinda, Here are two good websites for Shy-Drager and MSA (newer name for SDS) actually MSA-P sounds like the newer name for it. http://freepages.health.rootsweb.com/~charmayn/links.html http://www.wenet.net/%7Eccjm/shy-drager/ Depending on your mother's symptoms it may still be early to diagnose it properly. This is not a specific disease, only a set of symptoms. For some reason still unknown at this time brain cells die in different parts of the brain and create the problems. MSA is considered a Parkinson's Plus disorder. Not many doctors (even neurologists) know a lot about MSA. Your best bet is a " movement disorder specialist " probably either in Trenton or New York City. The main thing to to find a doctor who will work with her to relieve as many of the symptoms as possible. Another place to look is at a State Medical College for neurology. You mentioned orthostatic hypotension this AM and it is when your BP drops on sitting or standing, it may respond to Florinef or Midodrine. Remember too that if her BP goes way up when reclining, you can lower the BP by raising the head of the bed 6-8 inches. Bp in the sitting position may be normal while it may go to 170/100 or higher laying down and may drop to 70/40 or lower when standing. Many here use Prilosec or Prevacid for GERD it is common with MSA. Ask questions about specific problems and we can help more. Take care, Bill and Charlotte Werre in Herndon, VA -------------------------------------------------------- Belinda Joyce wrote: > I just signed up to the list last night and received so much > information and stories already!
