J,

I do know you have to wait 6 months after surgery to give blood and if your

hemoglobin is not 13 or above they will boot you out:) From reading I would

say that we do not need any blood during surgery, so I do not think that

would be a problem! :) Paige

J,

I can't think of a reason why you couldn't give blood... Maybe not right

away, and later only if your H & H was good ....

Maybe that question should be deferred to Dr R.

Wow, I did not know that....I had to have a pint taken prior to my

panniculectomy...the day they took it my iron was on the low side...

I am feeling OK, & am not currently taking an iron supplement....Should I

take it anyway???

Hi,

Iron deficiency is very common in gastric bypass patients.

I am now recommending iron, vitamin A and Zinc.

In addition it is a good idea to beware of Helicobacter Pylori as treatment

of H. Pylori can improve iron levels.

See the web site and search under iron deficiency for more information.

Dr R.,

I came across something interesting on a web-site tonight. It was on a soy

info web-site.It said that soy cuts down the acid in the stomach, would this

help those who are having ulceration problems?? Just a thought, I wish I had

thought of sending you the web page. Your post is what joggled my memory.

Hope it is helpful! :) PAige
