Guest guest
Hi Renay, Welcome to the group- these people are a great bunch! I am so glad you are4 here. I , even when I first joined, had so much weight lifted off my shoulders, was very naive, didn't know there were soooo many others out there like me!! Anyway, welcome... This might be coincidence, or..... I read today- " What cannot be cured, can be endured " - Well, this group takes that a step further- We are not victims!!! Love and light, BB, Hello all, I'm Renay. Just joined tonite. My significant other was just diagnosed this afternoon and she is not taking it very well. We go to the GP tomorrow morning to get the specifics and I guess some type of plan? Not sure yet if she is Type I or II or how bad it is yet....what meds, if meds, insulin, etc..... I have a no cure disease myself, so I know what she is going through somewhat. I wanted to join to gain knowledge of what works, what to eat, etc as I am the grocery buyer, etc. I will go through the historical post also. Am glad that I found this group and hope to chat with you all and read the messages. ((HUGS)) Renay
Guest guest
Hi Renay - this is a great place for questions - you will get many many responses. I was diagnosed type 1 in May (after a misdiagnosis of type 2 awhile ago). I'm sure the doctors will work out what she needs to do and what form the diabetes is taking. either way, I benefit from postings by both insulin users and the " diet and exercise " folk. welcome,
Guest guest
Hi Renay, Welcome aboard, your friend is in for a real education! I didnt take it well either when I found out about 4.5 yrs ago that I am type 2. Some people have denial, which I didnt, I had ANGER and lots of it. It took a long time for that to dissipate but it did. Now I just find the whole thing a pain in the butt, but I do my best to eat properly, I take my meds, and it's always in the back of my mind when I am around food that I can't eat like everyone else. But I'm used to it, and it's ok, I think I have been sick a lot less since I've been taking better care of myself. I went 3 yrs with no winter cold (pretty good for living in Ontario!) and then I had two colds in about 3 wks, and this winter I didnt have a cold. For me, that's pretty amazing. It's not all doom and gloom altho your friend probably wouldn't agree at this stage of the game. Keep reading and posting and we'll try to assist. Elva > Hello all, I'm Renay. Just joined tonite. Guest guest
Thanks to all for the welcome. I really appreciate it and can already see that this is a great group and will have so much knowledge that can't be gained anywhere else with so many members! Reminds me of my HS group:>). Well yesterday while waiting to get into the doctor we went through all the cabinets, fridge and freezer and removed all things with loads of carbs and sugars. Went grocery shopping and got good things like stuff for salads, lettuce, cucumbers, veggies, etc. Steph has her A1C?? test today...the one where it gives you the average for the last 3 months? Anyway, she is to test 2x a day for 2 weeks, and then go back and see if diet, lose of weight and physical exercise may do the trick or go on glucophage (sp?). I know how to spell my disease and medical terminology, just don't know this one (yet.). Question...is there any type of company that offers discounts or something on the test strips? I have insurance, but Steph doesn't and those things are expensive! I'm sure Steph will post later with her results, etc. Glad you all are here for both of us.
